National High School Entrance Exams: Results are in!

The results of these exams are finally out and we have some good news and some news that could be better.

Good News:
Out of the 50 students who took the exams, 44 passed. The other 6 will need to repeat the 8th grade.

News that could be better:
Only 1 of the 44 passing students was selected to go to High School. Sadly, there is no room for the rest and this is happening to all the other schools in Malawi, as there are very few High Schools in the country.

All hope is not lost, though, as we will try to find some empty slots for at least a few of our students. In the worst case scenario, they will need to wait until next year, when hopefully more spaces will be made available.

National High School Entrace Exams. Last day.
It's the last day of exams for our 8th grade students and everyone is feeling the pressure. The results of these 3 days of exams will determine the high school they will be selected to go to and, by extension, their future. None of them want to fail and repeat grade 8 and none of them want to go to an obscure high school. A good exam pass rate will also put our school on the map of Malawi. There is a lot at stake!
Exams of today: Primary Sciences in the morning; Arts and Life Skills in the afternoon.
The results will be out around mid-November - early-December.
We will keep you posted.

Hope for the Future Primary School

According to the visa conditions, we are not allowed to work for money here in Malawi. ALL the money coming into the ministry needs to be from outside the country. This means we have to trust in God in ways we never had to do before coming as missionaries. This means we have to depend on His provision and the generosity of His people. It's our only choice.

Throughout the years we've had many needs. Some were bigger than others but we always knew that God will provide. This need - to keep the Primary School going - is very important to us. Through this work, we directly impact 800 people. Indirectly, countless people benefit and will benefit. These children have families and they will have their own family one day. Education breaks the cycle of poverty and brings these children to a place where they can read the Word of God and understand His will for their lives.

As to many other needs in Malawi, we ask because they can't. We are the voice for those without a voice. None of these 800 children and thousands upon thousands of family members will have be able to reach to you and ask for a single cent. They can't, so someone has to be their voice.

We're very close, right now approaching 79% of the total needed. Just one less Starbucks coffee this month will keep 2 children in school. One less dinner in town this month will provide education for 1 child for the entire year.

I am asking you to give to either of these campaigns.

Sadly, stories like this one happen too often here in Malawi, and that is why our school was built by a registered building contractor. It cost more but it gives us confidence the walls will not collapse on our children.

Pray for the grieving parents.

BREAKING: A pupil has died while two others sustained various degrees of injuries after being hit by a collapsing classroom block wall at Fumbi Primary School in Mwanza. In an interview with Malawi News Agency, district commissioner (DC) Francis Matewere said 7-year-old Livison Enock, who was in Standard One, was pronounced dead on arrival at Tulonkhondo Health Centre. The other two, Maliko Fositala, 10, and Mark Masitoni six, Standard Three and One respectively, are receiving treatment at Mwanza District Hospital. Meanwhile, Matewere says the two are in a stable condition. According to the DC, the three met their fate while passing close to the school building. #NationOnline

"If you think education is expensive try ignorance." ~African Proverb.

At this point in time, we're close to 40% being funded, school year 2019-2020. I have faith God can do this.

Many good people shared this need and even many more have given. We all just want one thing: to keep the education at a high standard and keep giving children opportunities and a future.

Many people feed children and help them today. We feed them too, but we also teach them how to feed themselves.
Give them a chance.

Urgent Need

Ridgecrest will continue to support ministry in Malawi, we have 16 children that need sponsorship for the feeding center but we also need support for the school. This school is a private school and shares Jesus with over 800 kids per day! So not only is this school changing their earthly future, but their eternal one as well. Can you invest in their eternity in this small way? $3 a month ($36/year) educates 1 child!

mailchi.mp Dear partners in the ministry,    As you know, God has blessed Hope for the Future with an amazing ministry in Malawi, allowing us to do children’s ministry, church planting, pastor’s conferences, Bible training, care for widows, feed the orphans and educate children. Miracles don’t produce faith, but faith produces miracles....
I heard this today and it reminded me of miracle of building a full elementary school, of feeding orphans, of building wells, of providing for school fees. It all started because of the faith of a few.
Step out in faith and be part of this continuing miracle! Help with school fees, sponsor an orphan or step out with huge faith and go to Malawi to serve! What a blessing!

Partnering with Hope For the Future to End the Cycle of Poverty through Education

11/12/2018

I dream of becoming a doctor, I dream of becoming a nurse, I dream of becoming a teacher, I dream of becoming a police officer." These are dreams listed on the profiles for our orphans in the village of Kachere in Malawi, Africa. Not one of them says, "I dream of living in poverty". These kids are just like our kids, they dream, they hope, they want to escape the poverty they seem doomed to. This is not the kind of poverty where you can't pay a bill or you can't buy the newest phone. This is the kind of poverty where you starve to death, where you don't have more than one outfit, where you sleep on a dirt floor. But....these kids, the kids in our village have hope. Hope to escape the poverty through education. In the last two years, there has been a primary school built. Grades 1- 6 now have over 600 kids attending school, some ,for the first time in their lives . For the first time, they have hope, they can dream. You, our friends, our partners, have helped give them this hope. If you would like to continue this hope, if you haven't had the opportunity to make a life changing donation for this project, you still can! Here is how you can help!
1. Join Bridge Creek School in raising money to build the final building to make this a complete primary school. Only one building left to make this happen. They have currently raised $1900 of the $20,000 goal.
2. Become a monthly supporter of the school. $5, $10, $20 or more. It costs $1500 currently and $2000 a month once the last building is done to cover the costs of running the school. Salaries, supplies, food, etc. 100 people donating just $20 a month can employ 12-15 teachers, provide supplies and maintenance that will continue every month to give hope to these students, teachers, community.
Already a supporter? Maybe you support 1 or more orphans, we appreciate you! We aren't asking for more. We are asking you share this project, reach out to others! We have gone to this village ever year since 2014 and can personally vouch that this school is changing lives! Thank you, if you made it to the end of this long post, for your time. Thank you for your consideration. None of us can do all of it, but all of us can do a lot!

11/12/2018

Update on Progress of School. I'm not sure that people, unless you have been there, understand the devastation and despair that extreme poverty causes. We can't take care of all the poverty, but we can make a dent in it in a real way, in real lives. Education is one of the keys to ending the cycle of poverty. In most countries education is something that is taken for granted, but in villages like Kachere, education is a privilege. After the first buildings were built in this village, some kids were not enrolled due to lack of space. Adults & kids showed up daily begging, crying, pleading to please let their kids go to school. Why? why do they want school so badly? Because poverty in the villages of Malawi is devastating. Adults and kids alike die because of starvation. Each year they depend on their crops. Some years because of too much rain, or not enough rain, they produce nothing. If this happens more than one year in a row, they starve. This is a cycle that has been repeating itself year after year. How do you break this cycle? How do they escape the poverty they are doomed to? It's not the only answer, but it is definitely one answer and one that we can do something about. EDUCATION. As of today, we have completed 1st-6th grade buildings. 675 children are currently enrolled and getting an education. Each year when we return to visit, they have learned more and more, English, Math, Spelling just to name a few. There is hope in their faces, their is joy in their countenance. They love school. They also understand that without the school, they would be destined to continue the cycle of poverty. Without education, they cannot get jobs, they cannot go to town for jobs because English is the business language, they cannot go to secondary school or even trade school without haven completed their primary education, which is 1-8th grade. We are almost there. We only lack the 7-8th grade building. The Bridge Creek high School & Middle School has taken on trying to raise the money to build this building. So far, they have raised about $1800.00. They will work on this all year. I am so excited to belong to a community where the school administration believes in teaching the students more than just their education, but that there is a big world and there are ways they can make a difference in it! Building this school helps in more ways than you know. It gives teachers a job, it gives construction workers a job, it gives villagers hope, it gives kids hope, it provides a way to end the cycle of poverty for so many. These kids will be the future doctors, nurses, teachers, shop owners, lawyers and maybe even president. This project will impact lives in the village of Kachere for many, many years to come. Some people ask, what about here? There are problems here, help is needed here. I don't disagree and we are doing our part in that as well. My question would be, what are you doing? One difference is that we have a government, churches, food pantries, and so many resources for those that are in need. In countries like Malawi, there are no resources, we, are the resources. If you would like to help with this project, you can send your tax deductible donation to RBC PO Box 840, Newcastle, OK 73065 or you can use your paypal account and send money to friends and family at [email protected]. Humans helping humans, students educating students....making a positive impact in our world. Join us, share this, together, we can make it happen.

Hope for the Future Primary School

Introduction

Hope for the Future Primary School in Kachere, Malawi exists because of a need. We’ve noticed how lack of education in this community affected everybody, effectively keeping every generation stuck in a vicious cycle of poverty. It is estimated that 70% of the adults in the rural areas of Malawi are illiterate. Uneducated parents don’t send their children to school, thus perpetuating the constant problems Africa has: poverty, sickness, corruption. We wanted to break this vicious circle, to initiate a change that will ripple through the next generations. The solution: a school.
