Fire Ceremony (ΠΠ°Π»ΡΠ½ ΡΠ°Ρ
ΠΈΠ»Π³Π°)
The fire ceremony is performed to connect the hearth fire of one's family and descendants to the ancestral hearth fire dwelling in the high heavens β through an energetic link. The great fire ceremony must be completed by the lineage's fire-keeper each autumn and spring. Through this, unresolved matters among descendants and unfolding events within the lineage are brought into order β expanding and multiplying the blessings, good fortune, and works of the lineage and family hearth, and removing obstacles.
It is performed on the 2nd, 15th, and 18th of the lunar month. Rarely, certain elders may hold it on the 21st. It may also be offered under the full moon, in the blessing of Mother Moon. Some lineage and water-realm elders may designate a different planetary day and complete it by the sun.
Which day, what offerings, and how to perform it β all of this is spoken by the lineage elders.
The masters of the hearth, wrathful protectors, divine beings, ancient ancestor spirits, and all guardians dwell in the hearth of every child of the lineage. They are supported and delighted through melody, energy, and vital force.
The ceremony unfolds as follows:
First, all descendants of the household and lineage must be gathered and united. The lineage fire ceremony unites all descendants of the lineage. The household fire ceremony requires all members of that household to be present in person. Once gathered, the great masters and elders of the hearth are invoked and asked how to begin and complete the great fire ceremony.
The hearth is then taken out to open land β usually to the territory of the leading descendant of the lineage, or beside the mountain and water spirits that have supported the lineage, or to the welcoming land of respected elders. It is not performed inside a felt-walled ger. It is the custom to go out into open nature.
The order of the ceremony:
The descendants performing the fire ceremony are introduced to the great masters of the fire by their full names and titles. Each descendant places clarified butter inscribed with their name at the base of the great hearth seat.
The fire is lit β from the right side by the lord, from the left side by the lady. By lighting it this way, the great masters of fire are called and invited, seated and descended, and supported to begin the work.
The hearth is connected to the masters of the lineage and hearth dwelling in the heavens β summoning and drawing forth blessings and good fortune.
To receive the blessings, the great masters of the hearth are entertained and delighted with melody, dance, and celebration. Prayers and praises are offered. At this time, the masters of the hearth descend to the fire-keeper descendants. They may also choose not to descend.
Offerings of food and sacred items are presented to the hearth β each descendant divides their offering, whispers their clan name, and declares to which master they are offering, what they are offering, and why. Descendants are divided by role β those who call forth blessings, those who lead the works, those who support the works β and each places their offerings into the hearth. The offerings are awakened. To summon blessings, the belt of the household head is required. The head must wear their ceremonial armour and deel robe. This multiplies the blessings. Blessings are not limited to a single coin, ingot, or food offering.
Offerings of food and drink must always be made to the mountain and water spirits β four high offerings, white foods, and the tail offered to the wilderness. When offering, one announces one's clan name, declares to which master the offering is being made, and presents it accordingly.
Once the fire has been tended and the ceremony is complete, the distributed offerings are taken home and honoured. The fire is rekindled using incense from those offerings.
Prohibitions: Do not bring knives or blades near the fire. Do not chop or break wood beside the fire. Do not offer meat or alcohol to the fire. Offerings to the fire may include juniper, wormwood, clarified butter, silk, and boiled sheep tail.
Every evening of the Blue Mountains retreat, we will gather around the fire β a sacred fire ceremony performed according to one of the oldest living traditions on Earth.
