How to post on the classroom wall
Iokwe ri-kaki ro ilo RMI.
I’d like to share ideas “how to post on the wall”.
When I visited class rooms in many schools, I could see great ideas and thought it’s better to share ideas with other teachers.
Some students easily forget prior knowledge, but if you post prior knowledge on the wall, it’s easy to review with students.
If you see these photos, you can get good ideas. If you like it, post it on your classrooms! 😉

G4 chapter 6 Fraction ( for all teachers who are struggling with teaching fractions)
Iokwe ri-kaki ro ilo RMI.
Today, I’m going to introduce emman tata lesson from DES G4 teachers, ri-kaki Lucy ,ri-kaki Scott im ri-kaki MaryJane.Their ideas will help your lessons and students.
When students learn fractions, visible things will help their learning. All teachers in DES G4 teachers used fraction models for students. Thought the model, students can get ideas “how to add unlike fractions” “how to change improper fractions to mixed number “ and so on.
According to the results of 100% goal tests, we can say the one of the biggest weakness in RMI is fractions. I hope all teachers use fraction models in lessons.
If you have any questions or requests, please let me know. Kommol tata.

Students centered lesson by ri-kaki Greg
Happy new year nan aolep ri-kaki ro iloRMI!
I’m going to share useful information with you to improve students in RMI. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me about lessons.
Workshop at DES by 6B teacher Mr. Greg Aine was held on 1/6. He’ve learnt how to do students centered lesson in Japan last year. He tried hard when he was in Japan, he woke up at 5am and studied every day to provide emman lessons for Marshallese students.
He showed model lesson by using G4 text book to teach how to add unlike fractions.
In his lesson, he used many W/H question sentences like “What” “How””Why”. If you use W/H questions during the lesson instead of “listen””copy”, students can use their brains much more.
Kommol tata ri-kaki Greg san for sharing experiences and preparing for workshop!

Topic: Factors ( G4〜)
Iokwe ri-kaki ro ilo RMI!
I saw many students struggling to find factors.
Today, I’d like to share the easy and exact way to find factors.
✳︎making rainbow ✳︎
I named “making rainbow” as my way.
Please look at the 1st pic.
Let’s try to find the factors of 24 together.
(1) write 1 and the number
At first, please write 1 and 24 ( 1×24=24 these are factors)
However, please make sure to make space between 1 and 24. They are the 1st rainbow.
(2) check next number
Then, we can try 2,3,4. ... but you will notice the factors are should be between 1 and 24.
The 2nd rainbow is 2 and 12( 2×12=24)
The 3rd rainbow is 3 and 8 ( 3×8=24)
The 4th rainbow is 4 and 6.
(3) finish making rainbow
At the end, let’s check 5 because 5 is between 4 and 6 . However, 5 is not factor; so it means we finish finding all factors of 24.

Topic: word problem, Rate ( for G5 and G6)
Iokwe ri-kaki ro ilo RMI!
I’d like to share some tips for rate problems.
(1) when you solve word problems
Please let students find important numbers and words and underline them.
It will help students to make math sentences.
(2) Check “where is the ? “
Before solving problems, we need to classify information. Please look at pic 3.
We need to compare car A and car B but we cannot compare 702mile/12gal and 873mile/15gal. But if we use same unit; like 1gal, we can compare. So we can use ? for car A ?/1gal for car B ?/1gal. Then, we can start solving and find the missing number.
(3)finding relationship between two numbers
Please look at pic 4. We need to find ?bottles/1min. Before solving, let’s classify the information like this.
24 bottles ... 8min
?? bottles ...1min
Then, let’s find the relationship between 8min and 1 min. We can change 8 to 1 if we divide 8 by8. So we can also divide 24 by 8.
If you get it, please try to solve the question pic 7.
If you have questions, please ask me anytime! Kommol tata.

Topic: Division for G4 and G5
Iokwe ri-kaki ro ilo RMI.
I’d like to share good ideas to teach division.
(0) before solving problem
I strongly recommend you to prepare grid paper for students. When we solve division problem, we need to pay attention to place value. If we use grid paper, it’ll be easier and clear.
(1) division steps
You can teach division steps like this.
Step 1 Daddy
Step 2 Mommy
Step 3 Sister
Step 4 Brother
Daddy means “divide”.
Mommy means “multiply”.
Sister means “Subtract”.
Brother means “Bring down”.
Please look at the pic 1-6.
I also recommend you to use hand to hide numbers. Then we can divide numbers one by one.
(2) how to help students
Some students are not familiar with multiplication time table.( Actually, I hope all students more than G3 remember multiplication time table perfectly)
DES ri-kaki MaryJane helps students to let them write down multiplication besides the question. Please look at pic 7. It was great idea!
If you have questions, please ask me anytime. Kommol tata.

Topic: After 100%test ( For all grade teachers)
Iokwe emman ri-Kaki ro ilo RMI!
I’d like to share idea about how to use 100% test.
(1) please let all students retry the test until they get 100%
All students need to understand how to solve each question.
Ex) Most of G6 students forgot to divide when they found area of triangle. They need to understand.
(2) please tutor if students got less than 50% ( GK, G7and G8 less than 40%)
When you see score sheet, you can see red numbers. That means the student needs to be tutored. So please help them.
(3)let’s see progress at 2nd test!
If you have any questions, please ask me anytime. Kommol tata.

Topic: Subtraction
Iokwe emman ri-kaki ro ilo RMI!
Today, we’d like to share ideas how to teach subtraction.
Emman tata using 10 frames. So please use;)
1 subtract without regrouping
(1) please let students use manipulative.
(2) ex 8-3 please use this phrase
“Mokotata 8 byebye 3 jete ippam?”
Please let them move 3 .
2 subtract with regrouping
(1) please let students use manipulative.
(2) ex 12-8 12 is 10 and 2. We can subtract 8 from 10. Then, answer is 2.
We can add 2 and 2.
12-8=10-8+2
=2+2
=4
3 subtract great numbers
(1) please teach students how to write numbers on vertical form.(line up!)
(2) start from ones. If we cannot subtract , borrow 10.
4 how to use notebook
Please let students write numbers not so small. You can teach them use 2 lines to write numbers.
If you have questions, please ask us anytime!;)

[fraction]
Please let students understand “ what is the simplest form” .
Many students add denominators, but it’s incorrect. Please show models to students and let them understand why we have to make same denominators.
[shapes]
Many students forget to divide by 2 when they find area of triangle. Please check the last picture and let them understand the meaning of “divide by 2”.
