Last week our Agri-Nutrition Students learned about Kang-Kong.

Do you have an idea of what Kang-Kong is? No?
A Kang-Kong is a leafy vegetable that takes very little maintenance to grow anywhere around your house.
The other name for Kang-Kong is Water Spinach. It is rich in antioxidants and dietary fiber.

Let's try mixed with canned meat, eggs or the fresh meat of your choice.

Let's take a look at what our students made from last week's cooking class.

Last week, our students were out in the garden again after two weeks of constant watering and patiently waiting for their seeds to finally sprout into lovely tiny seedlings.

After a long wait, the seedlings were finally ready to moved to a larger gardening bag so they could continue growing.

The primary objective was to show students that they have the ability to think outside the box and be fun and creative when it comes to doing their home gardening. They can reuse, recycle or even up-cycle whatever they find fits in their communities to grow their own food.

"No space for gardening? Easy, just grow your food from inside a bag!"

Iakwe Waj! After a long wait due to the Covid restrictions, the Agri-Nutrition club is finally back and running! The club was officially opened again this school year with a welcome back field trip activity to Laura Farm.

The club students had an introduction briefing with the Horticulture Specialist, Mr. Jovi before they were taken around the farm. After the briefing the tour immediately began. The first stop being the Training Center where the students were shown and introduced to Hydroponic Farming. Students watch in amazement as vegetables are being grown indoors! After that they were led to different parts of the farm. On their tour, they saw different varieties of vegetables and fruits. There were the commonly grown local papaya to the rarely but locally grown dragon fruits! They were shown different varieties of leafy green vegetables. Their last two stops were the Nursery and the compost room. The students went back to school after that with fresh cherry tomato and lettuce treats.

The activity continued after school once the students gathered back at the school garden to prep their garden for their new crops this year!
