Our trainee teachers engaged in practical, hands-on demonstrations from the Liberia National Early Childhood Education Curriculum, covering topics such as handwashing, transportation, food we eat, etc. From handwriting and lesson delivery to classroom presentations, the sessions were filled with creativity, confidence, and active learning.

Our Department of Early Childhood Education also emphasized the approved ECE enrollment structure: Nursery, Kindergarten 1, and Kindergarten 2, as recognized by the Ministry of Education in the Academic Calendar.

In addition, our Primary Education teachers in training were introduced to the 2019 revised competency-based curriculum for Grades 1–6, equipping them with practical strategies for effective classroom implementation.

At New Joy Teach Training Institute, we are proud to have highly experienced master trainers in Early Childhood Education and qualified facilitators and trainers in Primary Education, all committed to developing competent, refined, efficient, and impactful educators for Liberian classrooms.

Join us today as we prepare teachers through practical, hands-on approaches to mitigate challenges in Liberian classrooms and improve teaching and learning outcomes.

At New Joy–Liberia, we believe sustainable literacy improvement requires continuous teacher development, strong partnerships, and God’s guidance.

Our ongoing year-end training is reaching 94 school leaders and 288 Grades 1-3 teachers across 94 participating schools, impacting over 7,200 students through strengthened Phonics & Literacy Pedagogy and improved classroom instruction.

To promote sustainability and respond to the dynamics within Liberia’s education system, where teachers are often transferred across grade levels, an additional 282 Nursery to Kindergarten teachers are also participating in the school-based training. This continues to strengthen Early Childhood Education and foundational literacy instruction across participating schools.

We extend sincere appreciation to Edify for its continued support in promoting literacy across Liberia, especially within faith-based and private school systems. We also acknowledge Edify for funding and supporting this initiative, empowering New Joy–Liberia to meet and exceed its literacy improvement targets.

Above all, we give God all the glory and express our deepest gratitude for His faithfulness and guidance throughout this journey. From the very beginning until now, God has continued to lead New Joy–Liberia, enabling us not only to impact lives but also to exceed our targets in transforming literacy outcomes for children across Liberia.

Recent reports and feedback from trainers, teachers, and school leaders indicate that several literacy concepts taught using the ILAP Student Activity Book and Teacher Instructional Guide appeared on the Liberia National Assessment Test (LNAT) for Grade 3 Literacy. Reported content areas included sound-picture association, decoding and blending, sight word practice, word recognition, sentence reading, etc.

These outcomes reflect the growing impact of structured literacy instruction, effective classroom practices, and quality teaching and learning materials in strengthening foundational reading skills among early-grade learners.

At New Joy–Liberia, we remain committed to supporting schools, empowering educators, and improving literacy outcomes through sustainable teacher development and effective literacy pedagogy.

Today, our Early Childhood Education trainees continued implementing the Liberia National Play-Based ECE Curriculum, focusing on daily classroom routines, literacy and language development, foundational reading skills, and handwriting skills that promote good penmanship for effective classroom instruction.

Our trainees are being equipped to write neatly and professionally on the board, correctly form letters and numbers, and model quality handwriting for students to follow in their classroom notes and learning activities.

Our Primary Education trainees also engaged in peer teaching presentations, data presentation, and Professional Ethics to strengthen instructional delivery and classroom professionalism.

At New Joy Teacher Training Institute, we strongly emphasize Phonics and Literacy Pedagogy because strong reading, writing, and communication skills are the foundation for success across all subjects and key to improving teaching and learning outcomes in Liberia.

At New Joy Teacher Training Institute, we do not just teach, we prepare teachers with practical skills that set them apart.

Beyond earning a “C” Certificate in Primary or Early Childhood Education, our trainees also gain valuable skills in Phonics and Literacy Pedagogy through practical and interactive training experiences.

Today’s Phonics & Literacy Pedagogy session focused on the Gradual Release Instructional Model, in which trainees progressed from observation to co-teaching and classroom practice using the ILAP instructional materials.

We remain committed to excellence in education and to expanding more professional skills opportunities for our trainees as we work together to transform teaching and learning outcomes in schools across Liberia.

The 2026 ILAP National Literacy Fair was more than a competition, it was the beginning of a national movement for literacy in Liberia.

This pilot event was born out of the impact of the Integrated Literacy and Assessment Program (ILAP), currently being implemented in 94 schools, reaching over 7,200 students and 282 teachers across Montserrado and Nimba counties through the ILAP Student Activity Book and Teacher Instructional Guide.

Bringing together Grade 1–3 students and teachers, the fair celebrated growth in foundational literacy skills, the dedication of schools and educators, and the power of structured literacy instruction to transform learning outcomes.

By God’s grace, we envision the ILAP National Literacy Fair becoming an annual event, expanding across Liberia to celebrate literacy, recognize excellence, strengthen partnerships, and inspire even greater investment in education.

We are deeply grateful to our producer, Sir. Godgift for beautifully capturing this historic moment, and to our partners, Edify, schools, teachers, students, and supporters for making this vision possible.

Together, we are building a nation of readers.

Today, our ILAP team continued classroom observations, school visits, coaching, and continuous teacher training across Montserrado and Nimba Counties.

At Pioneer Foundation School, our trainer, Victor Laomie, successfully led a 1-hour interactive session with teachers and school leaders, focused on strengthening phonics instruction for sustainability at the school level.

Participants engaged in a pair-sharing activity on letter sounds, using flashcards to practice and confidently articulate each sound. It was inspiring to see teachers actively learning, collaborating, and strengthening their skills to better support early-grade readers.

Every training brings us one step closer to improving literacy outcomes for our children.
