A clarion call for the young people of Liberia to be peaceful, civil, tolerant and resilient as we approach the midterm senatorial election in December, and beyond!

Evidently, Liberian youths have been constantly used by some selfish politicians to create chaos and perpetrate unnecessary violence especially during Electoral processes, with the end result of achieving their personal goals; thus, threatening peaceful co-existence, undermining our democratic process and demoralizing the majority of our population: the youthful sector.

Against such a realistic background, the Sustainable Educational Initiative of Liberia (SEIL INC), presents the Youth Against Electoral Violence Campaign (#YAEVC ).
A rigorous youth driven campaign designed to educate the majority of our population: the youthful sector, about the importance of placing the interest of Liberia above everything else, and staying away from electoral violence and it's dangers, thus dissuading the minds of the youthful population, and the general public from the continuous trend of settling for less and being manipulated during elections, and always.

Accordingly, this campaign will be done through a massive online ( social media) awareness of sharing the campaign flyer using the reverberating hashtag #YOUTH_AGAINST_ELECTORAL_VIOLENCE_CAMPAIGN, an intense radio tour to send the message across Liberia, commitment of stakeholders and youths to protect and sustain the peace through snippet videos and Schools and Community engagements.

Henceforth, kindly join this nationalistic and genuine cause by liking, sharing and reposting the campaign flyer and message on your social media platforms; as we collectively eradicate electoral violence.

At S.E.I.L INC, we are building Liberia through sustainable Education in line with goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals, quality Education.

The strength of every organization has a lot to do with the capacity of the staffs and volunteers, and also how clearly the vision and mission of such organization is clearly explained.

It is against such backdrop that we held an in-house capacity building training over the weekend to educate our staff and volunteers about the importance of volunteerism and community service, defining organizational leadership and structure and clearly explaining the actual framework of SEIL INC.

Many thanks to our facilitators Mr. Alex F. Devine, CEO of Youth for Change INC and Mr. Otis S. Bundor Country Director of Child Steps International for honoring our invitation to serve as facilitators.

IN HONOR OF AFRICAN CHILDREN AND ICONS, S.E.I.L INC COMMEMORATES JUNE 16 AS THE DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD.

Theme: " ACCESS TO A CHILD-FRIENDLY JUSTICE SYSTEM IN AFRICA"

In as much as the passion for sustainable education remains a major concern, one can clearly understand why the Soweto uprising of 1976 was a fundamental gateway to reviving the country's anti-pedagogical learning backwardness against the tyrannical "apartheid" regime of South Africa, an establishment infused with racial segregation that privileged the minority white elite class.

Today, we shine a light on a fallen hero, iconic image and figurehead of the Soweto uprising in 1976 Hector pieterson who was shot, and killed in a protest for black students to be taught in Afrikaans.

In the second photograph by Sam Nzima, the corpse of Hector is being carried by Mbuyisa Mhakubo a fellow student, while his sister Antoinette Sithole runs beside them.

Consequently, each year on June 16, the Sustainable Educational Initiative of Liberia commemorates the Day of the African Child, as is being celebrated across Africa in honor of the 1976 uprising of Soweto and recognizes children in Africa, as well as to incite a sober reflection towards addressing the many problems and challenges children in Africa face on a daily basis.

Henceforth, if we've been dreaming about ensuring that the fundamental right (Education) of every child is jealously protected, it's time we wake up from our comfort zones and support education with emphasis on primary school going children, for they are the foundation of our education system.

With regards to the theme of this year's event, " ACCESS TO A CHILD-FRIENDLY JUSTICE SYSTEM IN AFRICA", the Sustainable Educational Initiative of Liberia remains committed to protecting children's rights and expanding human resource development; thereby buttressing national government's efforts in reforming Liberia's educational system.

At S.E.I.L INC, we are building Liberia through sustainable education in line with goal 4 of the SDGs.

In continuation of our online awareness against Covid-19 through poems, Carlton Zeagben, coordinator of Bong county wrote a mind blowing and eye-opening piece titled: "Hope is Alive"; kindly go through and give a feedback.

"HOPE IS ALIVE"
________________________________________________
At the unmerciful hands of Covid-19, gestures that connect us are now threats.
Once laughing streets are mourning with emptiness.
Like in labor, we gnaw our teeth in anguish.
___________________________________________
For we are trapped in cages called homes.
As a result of imperialism and neo-colonialism, our lives have been freedom drained
with hunger being the master for many.
_____________________________________________

Boredom and idleness have befriended many.
Love ones are down and counting.
Our best efforts seem mediocre.
Hope has vanished like vapor for a few,
for answers are yet a thought,
and cure a drought.
__________________________
[Panting]
________________________
The world is running faint.
If this is about proving a point, we have had enough.
Heath protocols should be the routine;
If this enemy should be contained.
______________________________________________
Social distancing, hand washing, and masking are the antidotes for now.
Indeed, adherence is the way forward
Perhaps, the cure.
___________________________________

Time heals!
This too shall be history soon.
For We are resilient then we know.
__________________________
We shall triumph!
Again, the kids will play wild.
Our frowns will turn to smiles.
__________________________
The streets, and cities will laugh out loud.
Families will embrace in serenity.
Humanity will rise like Zion.
Yes! We shall overcome.
For Hope is alive!

Amidst such global crisis ( Covid-19), our workaholic volunteer ABDULLAI ROGERS with the pen name: Wisdom, wrote a nice poem intended to educate and motivate us all. Kindly read below:

"RESIST"

Coming out of nowhere,
it has become a threat
to our lives.
________________________

It is a 21st century bug;
however, not the one we cannot get rid of.
__________________________________________
It infects a thousand persons per day.
_______________________________________
Men, women, and even children,
leaving not a happy face but
only worries.
____________________________________

Yet, we can resist its uprising
by “Sanitizing our hands”,
“Masking our mouths and noises” and
“Avoid touching our faces”
_____________________________________
Ooh wait! And practicing
“Social Distancing”.
_________________________
All perfect means to RESIST this virus ( Covid-19), and
calling “4455” once realizing its symptoms
can help keep you and loved ones safe.
__________________________________________
We must also trust our health workers
by practicing those precautionary measures given, for they will safe us a day and many more days to school, worship, and party while witnessing our favorite Soccer leagues as usual.
________________________________________

By God’s grace, and with our collective efforts, we will triumph over this nightmare once we continue to "RESIST" the novel COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

It has been quite an amazing experience being apart of the West Africa Civil Society E- Directory; an online bilingual (English and French ) platform developed by the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) in response to the visibility and collaboration challenges expressed by civil society organisations (CSOs) and other development partners working in the region. The website aims to serve as a one-stop-shop for information on operational activities of CSOs to register their organisations and use it to disseminate information on their work. The directory and website was created for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in West Africa including Mauritania, Cameroon and Chad.

The goal is to have a one-stop directory where different stakeholders interested in working in different thematic areas and countries can find organisations already doing something in that area and connect to collaborate for a greater course.

We are excited to be apart of such platform; as it expands our Network and provides more visibility for our work.
