How I left the darkness of illiteracy.

This 42 years old learn how to read and write as a result of Alfalit Literacy program in her New Kru Town community. Finding herself working as a caretaker at a local community school, whenever the teacher is not in class she uses the time to teach the kids in order to keep the quite.
This is a woman who never had the opportunity to education when she was a teenager until in her late 30s when she finally came in contact with Alfalit Liberia.

[08/06/20]   "Because of Alfalit, today I am educated and I am even helping other children in my community. It is because of Alfalit Liberia I now go to the bank and fill up my on forms and sign for my own money. Most of all and even read my Bible. It i my desire is to advance myself further educationally."

52 Years old woman can now read and write. The Power of Alfalit Liberia Literacy Program.

Across communities in Liberia, Alfalit Liberia Literacy Program is touching lives. These are testimonies of a 52 year old literacy student and the community chair-lady of the Jallah Town Community

[08/06/20]   She really did not love the teaching profession. She often said teachers where poor people, but teaching Alfalit adults of the literacy program to read and write grew her passion for teaching. Because of Alfalit she enrolled into teachers' college where she earned an Associate Degree. she has become influential in her community and feels glad that she has and continues to help other illiterate Liberians leave the darkness of illiteracy and now being able to read and write.

Read this to the end, It will amaze you. The story of Ms. Sandra Somah:

"I am an international business woman; I travel to Nigeria, Guinea and Ivory Coast for goods, but I constantly faced embarrassment because I was illiterate. Every time I got to the immigration of those countries, I had to appeal to someone to write for me. Sometimes; when I asked people at the airport to help me write, they would just pass by me and would not do it. I also could not even organize and document my expenses from my profits and could not keep records.

But I am grateful that Alfalit Liberia has changed my story. I enrolled in Alfalit through the encouragement of my sister and today I can read, write and fill my own immigration forms whenever I travel to do my business away. Being able to read and write has made me bold and all my fears have gone. Right now I can now keep my record and my business is even doing better then before"

Cecelia signs her name in a visitor’s log at a local radio station.

Few years back this now 62 years old woman would run away from anything that would require her reading and writing. The simple reason was because she was illiterate. But now at the verge of graduating from the Alfalit Liberia Literacy and Basic education Program Cecelia, she faces that embarrassment no more!
It was amazing to stand by and watched Cecelia logged her details in the guests’ log at Spoon FM after appearing on a talk show; where she shared her story of her new reading and writing skills in Alfalit.
