The PEOPLE UNITED COMMUNITY (PUC) is a slum community that is situated between the Atlantic Ocean and a swamp behind JFK HOSPITAL in Monrovia Liberia. Since the community came into existence decades of years ago, it has had no community /public school(s). This slum community is highly populated with underprivileged school age children. About 90% of the residents of the People United Community population live below the international poverty line or live on less than $1 a day. This situation clearly manifests and speaks volume that vast majority of the community dwellers are in the visual cycle of poverty and because of their financial incapacity, they are unable to send their children to private schools which are relatively expensive. Moreover, during the rainy season, those kids find it difficult to go to school because of the heavy flood of rain which makes the roads unusable for travel. As it was mentioned early, PUC is situated between the ocean and a swamp as a result of this, any heavy pool of rain gets the community flooded with water; which has been one of the major challenges that the students who are attending distant community or private schools face. During the Ebola epidemic in 2014 and early 2015 about 4,716 Liberians lost their lives, the People United Community was one of the communities affected by this deadly Ebola Virus. The community suffers a serious setback as a result of the social /economic and psychological impacts of the deadly Ebola Crisis. The school was built to provide relatively free elementary school for the People United Community, since indeed there has been no community school(s) to help the underprivileged school aged-children.
