Demonstrative pronouns and determiners (les pronoms et déterminants démonstratifs) are words that help us to specify which thing or person in a group we are referring to in particular. In French, the demonstratives are ce, cet, celui-ci, celui-là and their variations. Depending on their grammatical role in the sentense, these words can be pronouns (which replace nouns) or determiners (which appear together with a noun). They correspond to the English pronouns this/that/these/those.

Unlike English, months are not capitalized in French unless they are at the beginning of a sentence. The same rule applies for the days of the week in French. And all French months are masculine.

How do you know when to use masculine vs feminine words? The best place to start when trying to figure out the gender of a French word is by looking at the ending of the word. Words that use the articles le or un are going to be masculine, and words that use the articles la or une are feminine. ( By the way le/la mean the and un/une mean a or an ) For example,

Une pizza/ La pizza ( pizza is feminine )
Un chat/ Le chat ( chat is masculine )
