Read, read, read a book.
Read a book each day.

So read a book each day.

❗️ATTN Parents/Guardians:❗️Please see the following for an important update regarding the upcoming school year. Thank you!

20th April, 2020

A pleasant good morning to all parents of Soufriere Infant School.

Facing this unprecedented and challenging times in this era , the staff of the school reaches out by officially welcoming you to the third term of the academic year, 2019 – 2020. As we are about to begin teaching and learning using new and unfamiliar dimensions, we want to give all the support and encouragement needed to ensure a successful and productive term.

Parents, as the school's motto says, “Learn Well to Live Well”, we need to ensure that all necessary steps are put in place for students to achieve success with the guidance of parents or guardians at home. More than ever, it is a time for you to demonstrate more patience and tolerance as we are confronted with all dilemma.

To achieve the objectives set out in the National Curriculum, the following will be done:

Learning/Communication Platform

Group chats have been created by teachers to disseminate information to you and

for you to be able to communicate with the teachers.

In order for this platform to be effective, please ensure that all parents provide updated telephone numbers to achieve 100% participation of all students. We do not want any child to be left out.

Please do not send unnecessary or forward messages as we do not want the pertinent information to be lost amongst theses other messages.

Printed material/ activity sheets

Class packages have been printed and will be distributed to parents on Monday 20th April, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. Please ensure that all necessary arrangements be made to collect these packages. It is imperative that parents adhere to the protocols and that masks be worn by all parents.

In some cases, teachers have asked parents to create an gmail account in order to continue the teaching and learning process. Parents of students in these classes using this medium ensure that you submit those addresses to the teachers at the soonest.

Zoom is another platform that some teachers have decided to use in facilitating the learning. Please ensure that you download this app on your device.

Responding to messages sent

The teachers will respond to messages sent in a timely manner. Be mindful of the hours that you post or respond to messages in the group chat. The class teacher will indicate the most suitable hours to do so. You can message the teacher privately if you have an emergency or want ro discuss personal matters.

Work to be covered

As stated by the Chief Education Officer, teachers will be engaged in revision of concepts taught in the first and second terms. This must be taken seriously by parents and students as it will help determine mastery of concepts taught previously.

Students will be expected to spend two hours in instructional activities daily. These activities are subdivided into the following:

Literacy hour( students are encouraged to read a book and complete given tasks in that area)

Numeracy hour

Life skills(students will participate in Physical activities, Music, Drama and other hands on activities prepared by the specialist teachers)

Students will begin a devotional session where an inspiring quote or message is disseminate.

Teachers will indicate which activities and topics should be covered and the duration of such

Please ensure that students complete the required tasks sent without parents doing the tasks. Parents are to correct the task based on directive and answer sheet provided by the teacher.

Certain tasks will require you to give feedback to the teacher in order to monitor the progress of each child.

Students have in their possession their notebooks or activity books from the previous terms. They should use them to review concepts as well.

A letter with other activities that parents can engage students in is placed in your package.

I would like to assure you that we will do our best to make this new experience as meaningful and rewarding as possible.

In order for this to work, we seek your full cooperation.

Be safe and stay indoors. Help make a difference in your child's life

Thank you.

Cyria Lafeuillee

Principal (Ag)
