What a moment for Brenda Mulrooney, DVM! 🎓🐾

As one of the student speakers at Commencement 2026, Brenda reminded her fellow graduates that while no veterinarian can know everything, showing up with empathy and a willingness to grow will always make a difference. Her message was also a powerful reminder that kindness is just as important as knowledge in the veterinary profession.

Recently, the SMU Muslim Student Association hosted a wonderful Eid dinner on our Basic Science campus, bringing students together for an evening of celebration and community. 🧆✨

The event featured delicious food, meaningful conversations and the opportunity to share in an important cultural tradition.

As one of the student speakers at our recent commencement ceremony, Dr. O'Keefe reflected on the resilience, dedication and passion that helped the Class of 2026 achieve their academic goals.

She reminded her fellow graduates that medicine is about more than knowledge – it’s about earning the trust of patients during their most vulnerable moments. Her message also encouraged graduates to stay humble and never stop learning throughout their future careers as practicing physicians.

We thank Dr. O'Keefe for her words of wisdom and share our congratulations with all St. Matthew's University graduates!

At our latest Brunch with Doctors event in Brampton, we sat down with Alison O'Keefe, a final-semester MD program student – originally from Newfoundland, Canada, she recently matched into the emergency medicine residency program at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York!

Alison shared what inspired her to pursue emergency medicine, reflected on some of her favorite memories from Basic Science on Grand Cayman, and offered advice for students considering futures as medical doctors.

The SMU Surgery, Anesthesia, Emergency & Critical Care club recently hosted a hand tie lab, focusing on an important surgical skill introduced in the upper semesters of Basic Science. 🤝🩺

Led by club President, Daina Potter, and Vice President, Madeline Weitz, the session gave students the opportunity to visualize different knot-tying techniques and practice their abilities in a supportive environment.
