Yesterday our IGCSE Biology students conducted an experiment to learn more about diffusion of substances through a semi-permeable membrane.

The students had to take the visking tubing they were provided and fill it with a starch solution that they made themselves. As the visking tubing is semi-permeable, the iodine particles moved from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, down a concentration gradient (into the visking tubing)

After 10 minutes, the starch solution in the visking tubing turned black as shown in the video below.👇
