We want to thanks dr Ali Kuru for writing a few words about our Fellowship:

„I started the microsurgery fellowship program 1 month ago. After many microsurgical transfers, today I had the opportunity to actively participate in a breast implant operation with Prof. Fabio Santanelli di Pompeo. From the first day until today, I had the opportunity to actively participate in the cases and learn from the knowledge and experience of Professor Santanelli di Pompeo. He included us in every stage of the operations for us to learn better. He is a great surgeon who devotes himself to his profession, teaching, and inspires us. I am very grateful to work with such a remarkable mentor.”

And you? Would you like to be a part of our operating team? ☺️

Our operating room has been bustling with activity lately - in the best way possible! We’re thrilled to have Dr. Alessandra Ceccaroni from Italy and Dr. Ali Kuru from Turkey taking part to our Fellowship in Clinical and Experimental Reconstructive Microsurgery. On top of that, we’re delighted to welcome Miss Ceylin Kalyoncu from Turkey, here through the Erasmus exchange program.

It’s a vibrant, international atmosphere of learning and collaboration—and there’s always room for more. Would you like to join us too? 😉

Thank you, Dr. Alessandra Ceccaroni, our fellow, for sharing her experience with yesterday’s surgery:

“Today, I had the incredible opportunity to assist in a DIEP microsurgery transfer for breast reconstruction on a young woman, completed in just 4 hours with Professor Santanelli di Pompeo. He gave me the chance to be involved in every step of the procedure, from dissection to microsurgical anastomosis—a remarkable mentor who explains, teaches, and inspires with such passion. I am grateful to learn from one of the world’s leading experts!”

We are proud to see that our former fellows continue to excel and contribute to scientific research, and even more proud to still collaborate and support them in their work. Dr. Theodor Mares, an ex-student of our Fellowship in Clinical and Experimental Reconstructive Microsurgery, has recently published an important paper in JPRAS documenting all cases of Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma Associated with Breast Implants (BIA-ALCL) in Romania.

This paper is part of Dr. Mares’ doctoral thesis in co-tutelage with Sapienza University, and it carries special significance for our fellowship program. Prof. Fabio Santanelli di Pompeo, director of the Fellowship, played a pivotal role by suggesting that Dr. Mares recalculate the prevalence of BIA-ALCL in Romania, using data from Prof. Santanelli di Pompeo’s own previous research. Prof. Santanelli di Pompeo also encouraged Dr. Mares to include and analyze the risk factors for BIA-ALCL for each patient included in the study.

This collaboration highlights the continuous exchange of knowledge between our faculty and fellows, and demonstrates how our Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to work together beyond the program itself. We take pride in following the careers of our ex-fellows and supporting them in their important research efforts.

We’re pleased to share a heartfelt testimonial from Dr. Evelyn Stanciu, a Romanian physician who recently completed our Fellowship in Clinical and Experimental Reconstructive Microsurgery in Rome, Italy 🇮🇹

„I'm really grateful for the chance to participate in your fellowship. It was an enriching and transformative experience for my medical education and personal growth.
The hands-on time in the operating room was priceless. I got to see a range of procedures, from reconstructive surgeries to cosmetic enhancements. The surgeons were not only highly skilled but also took the time to explain their techniques and decision-making, which really helped deepen my understanding.
On top of the clinical experience, living in Rome gave me a unique cultural perspective.
This internship definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. It boosted my communication skills and strengthened my commitment to a career in plastic surgery.
Thank you once again for this opportunity. I look forward to staying in touch!”

Thank you Dr Evelyn! ☺️

We’re happy to share with you that two talented young doctors, Dr Nandini Singh Tanwar from India and Dr Hud Shaker MD PhD from the United Kingdom, who have just completed a two-week visit at Sant’Andrea University Hospital in Rome, came back home. During their time with Prof. Fabio Santanelli di Pompeo, they had the opportunity to delve into some fascinating cases, including primary DIEP flap breast reconstruction, but also secondary cases after recurrent chest wall sarcoma, or contralateral breast symmetrization with fat transfer. We hope that our colleagues found their training experience enriching and rewarding.

Further, we’re pleased to announce that we are now offering shorter-term opportunities to attend our Fellowship in Clinical and Experimental Reconstructive Microsurgery. Recognizing the demands of modern life, we have opened up options for periods of 2 weeks, 1 month, and 2 months. This flexibility aims to accommodate young doctors who may have family or work responsibilities, making it easier for them to join us 🤩

We look forward to welcoming more aspiring plastic surgeons 💪🏻

🇬🇧 What better way to celebrate World Sick Day than this! I am happy to have had the privilege of restoring a smile to a wonderful patient who underwent reconstruction yesterday with a DIEP flap procedure.
