Rome Global Gateway introduces new inter-institutional course titled “Urbi et Orbi: Catholicism and the City of Rome” | Rome Global Gateway | University of Notre Dame 25/10/2023

"Urbi et Orbi: Catholicism and the City of Rome" is the first edition of an inter-institutional course that will be held in the spring of 2024 by the Rome Global Gateway (RGG), in collaboration with Università LUMSA and Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas - Angelicum.

Offered in preparation of the 2025 jubilee, the course aims to offer a historical and theoretical introduction to the city and to the role it has played and continues to play in the Catholic Church. The Latin expression “urbi et orbi” translates to “to the city and the world,” reflecting the course’s mission of considering the influence of the city of Rome on the Catholic Church and vice versa from a multiplicity of complementary perspectives.

The course will start on February 19, 2024 and will conclude by May 2, 2024.

The Global Day of Action, an initiative of Notre Dame International, takes place today, on Wednesday October 4th, as part of the annual St. Francis Week celebration.

To celebrate the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, members and friends of the Notre Dame International community around the world will be responding to Laudato Si's call to care for our common home with local action.

If you are in Rome today you can attend the "Global Day of Action Celio Litter Clean Up" at 6 pm at Notre Dame Villa Via Celimontana 23.

The theme for this year’s Global Day of Action focuses on reducing our waste. We are encouraging everyone to consider how we can reduce waste in our everyday life, whether that means reducing energy consumption, reusing and repurposing materials and relying less on single-use items, purchasing and consuming fewer materials, or donating unwanted goods and food.

This seminar is designed to introduce Ph.D. students from across the humanities to the unique primary sources available in Rome.

Even if your topic of study is not connected to Rome, the depth of the collection that the Eternal City hosts could be crucial for your research.

This is the case of Rafael Nieto-Bello, a Ph.D. student at the University of Texas in Austin, who consulted seven archives in Rome and discovered important documentation for his research on the development of knowledge of human diversity in the Caribbean region during colonial times.
