Farewell Celebration !!

The Department of Hospitality Management recently organized a grand farewell party for the passing out batch of 2024. The event was a delightful celebration filled with fun games, lively dance performances, and engaging activities that allowed the students to cherish their cherished memories from their campus life.

Highlights of the Farewell Party

- The event was graced by the presence of the Head of the Department, Mr. Amar Dabral, and all the faculty members, who extended their heartfelt wishes and good luck to the graduating students for their future endeavors.
- The students participated enthusiastically in a variety of games and competitions, fostering a sense of camaraderie and creating lasting memories.

Dining Etiquette: A Game Changer "
May 16, 2024

The Department of Hospitality Management Graphic Era Deemed to be University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand has organised an immersive dining etiquette workshop designed to refine the dining skills and enhance the confidence of the students in social settings on May 16, 2024 from 02:00 pm onwards. Led by seasoned etiquette expert Ms Manik Kaur, this workshop offered a hands-on approach to mastering the art of dining with finesse.

In this interactive session, participants:

- Learned the fundamentals of table manners, including proper use of cutlery, napkin etiquette, and seating arrangements.
- Understand the nuances of formal and informal dining settings, from business dinners to elegant gatherings.
- Practice dining etiquette in a supportive environment, with personalized feedback and guidance.
- How to consume meals while navigating through the table layout. Consuming soups, breads, main course and dessert.

Overall, it was a session full of enthusiasm and the students with their great degree of keenness, learnt the intricacies of a formal dining.

Mother's day Celebrations - 2024 !!
In order to commemorate the Mother’s day celebrations, the Department of Hospitality Management Graphic Era Deemed to be University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand came up with a wonderful idea to turn the Tea-time Snacking Healthy and Delicious through a unique Hands-on Baking Workshop “Tea Time Bakes” which is organized for the mothers of the young children to develop the habit of healthy snacking and to break to monotony of the boring regular snacks at the Tea-time.
The event was lead beautifully by Chef Mohsin Khan and Chef Yogesh Upreti of the Department where Crispy and Cruchy Walnut Brownie, Tasty Masala Roll, Delicious Tea Cake and Mouth watering Churros were among the most liked delicacies for the day.
Peanut Butter Cookies, Pista Cookies, Tarts and Quiches added on the variety to the Tea-time Bakes that can be served with the Tea.
The participating mothers seemed content and happy to attend the workshop. They seemed confident of preparing the menu items and serving the same at home. Overall, it was a great learning experience for them. At the same time they can implement their learning to satisfy the appetite of their children while being healthy and nutritious at the same time.

The panel, including Ms. Pranav Virmani, Training Manager, & Mr. Harris Vinoj, Senior Manager Human Resource, was warmly welcomed by our faculty & students. The session began with a Pre-placement presentation highlighting Oberoi hotels' career paths & legacy. We're thrilled to share that 11 of our students have been offered jobs in the reputed hotel.

On 23/04/24, the Department of Hospitality Management at Graphic Era Deemed to be University organized a captivating workshop on the art of Towel Origami. 🎨

Towel origami, also known as folded towels or towel folding, offers a delightful way to transform towels into creative shapes, perfect for adding a touch of fun to guest rooms or bed decorations, as seen on cruise ships and in some hotels. Participants had the opportunity to fold towels into charming animals like turtles, elephants, or yule logs, showcasing their creativity and skill. 🐢🐘🌲

Students from all batches of Hospitality courses participated enthusiastically, engaging in this unique workshop with great interest. It was a delightful experience for all involved, highlighting the creative and practical aspects of hospitality management education. 🏨✨

As a youngster with a heart brimming with passion and a handful of cash, Prof. Ghanshala embarked on a courageous journey, forsaking lucrative offers to pursue his calling. With unwavering commitment and boundless empathy, he faced every challenge head-on, never compromising his ethics, taking risks of great magnitude, and broadening his vision with each step.

The Department of Hospital Management was pleased to host Ms. Tessy Thomas, an Indian scientist and former Director General of Aeronautical Systems, as well as the former Project Director for the Agni-IV missile in the Defence Research and Development Organisation. She holds the distinction of being the first female scientist to lead a missile project in India. The student team served Ms. Tessy and other distinguished guests with a traditional Uttarakhand meal, presenting a thali with a variety of local dishes. The restaurant was decorated in a traditional theme, and all the guests expressed their appreciation for the food and extended their best wishes to the students for their future.

Tea Master Class by Mr. Himmat Singh Bisht - Managing Director, Vedavi Herbal Tea.

The training restaurant was abuzz with the students eagerly awaiting the commencement of the workshop. The afternoon turned out to be a comprehensive and immersive experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical tasting sessions, for the students.
By tasting such a wide variety of teas, students were able to develop a nuanced palate and a deeper understanding of tea's diversity and complexity.
Spell bound students eagerly and attentively followed the erstwhile speaker and were delighted to be part of the occasion,
The session ended with the different types of herbal tea tasting phase and the question answer session.
Curtains were finally drawn post lunch with all leaving happily, gay and content,

Entrepreneurship in Hospitality and Tourism: A Global Perspective
In a dynamic world where innovation is the heartbeat of progress, the essence of entrepreneurship cannot be overstated. The Department of Hospitality Management, Graphic Era Deemed to be University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand had the privilege of hosting a captivating guest lecture by Ms Angela Hamouda from School of Business and Humanities, Dundalk Institute of Technology, Ireland emphasizing on entrepreneurship, which ignited sparks of inspiration and insight among attendees. Ms Angela eloquently highlighted the essence of identifying opportunities in challenges and nurturing ideas into ventures. The lecture delved into the crucial role of resilience, adaptability, and perseverance in the entrepreneurial landscape, emphasizing that setbacks are merely stepping stones to growth.
Moreover, the speaker emphasized the significance of cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset and underscored the importance of embracing creativity, taking calculated risks, and continuously learning from both successes and failures.
Overall, the guest lecture on entrepreneurship was a transformative experience, igniting a fire of ambition and innovation within each attendee from UG and PG courses of Hotel Management. It reinforced the notion that entrepreneurship is not merely a career choice but a way of thinking—a mindset that challenges the status quo, envisions possibilities, and creates impactful change in the world. As we reflect on the lessons learned, we're reminded that the journey of entrepreneurship is not for the faint-hearted, but for those bold enough to dream, dare, and do.

An expert workshop on "Blossoms In Harmony: The Art Of Floral Arrangement" was organised by the Department of Hospitality Management at GEU. Mr. Deepak Borde, Manager of the Hyatt Regency in Dehradun, led the event. The hotel management students benefited from Mr. Deepak's insightful advice on floral arranging. He discussed with students the value of creating experiences and how flowers are a great way to do it.
Additionally, Mr. Deepak talked to the students about his experience working in hotels, how he got his start in the sector, how students may have a long-term career in the hotel business, and what the housekeeping department's job

Shining cutlery, neat and clean tables, light music and well groomed students – The restaurant lab was all glittering like a professional restaurant today for the À la carte Rush event. A professional meet, greet and seat welcome protocol was witnessed today as soon as any guest reached the door of the Restaurant Lab of GEU’s HM Dept.

Professionally groomed and uniformed students interacted with the guests elegantly giving them a feeling of being at a branded restaurant. All aspects of services were covered including the bartenders, pick up team and the serving team. Apart from that a fully dedicated kitchen team was constantly working hard to prepare food at the Kitchen Lab. The guests are always unaware of the chaos that happens backdoor, they can only see the happy and lively restaurant where you are being served nicely. The Rush starts once you cross the door leading to kitchen. With the never-ending order and pick up requests piling up, the students had to be very careful of preparing a great meal and delivering the right order without taking much time. It was the test of temperament and the students showed great efficiency and worked hard to prove themselves. The faculties of the hotel management department were all around to supervise and guide them.

More than 60 guests were served in between 12:30 till 3 pm. The guests were very impressed and commended the efforts and professionalism showed by the students. The feedback for food as well as for the services was excellent and every guest walked out with satisfaction

Mr. Nikilesh Semwal, leading entrepreneur and owner of 2 hotels and 2010–13 alumni of the department of hospitality management, gave a presentation to hotel management students about his professional background. He emphasized how Graphic Era (Deemed to be University)—played a crucial role in helping him become a fully qualified professional. He discussed how students might become successful entrepreneurs, the difficulties he had while starting his own business, and strategies for overcoming these difficulties. He also discussed entrepreneurship in the hotel industry. He discussed with the pupils the value of discipline, technical expertise, and professional grooming in building successful careers.

À la carte rush! A Live kitchen and quick serving restaurant workshop will be organized for the students of Hospitality Management on 1st March, 2024.
The Restaurant Lab will be operated as a full-fledged restaurant with professional serving for Lunch where the food will be cooked and served by the students. À la carte is a practice of ordering individual dishes from the menu in a restaurant. It takes more effort as compared to buffet or fixed menu service as spontaneous order are to be prepared and served and speed and stress handling is the key.

It will be a great exposure for the students and they have already started working towards it. A Beautiful menu is already prepared and seats are already booked. Looking forward for the event!!!

It is indeed great pleasure to welcome an eminent alumni Mr.Nikhilesh Semwal Batch 2010 -13 who is currently working as successful entrepreneur for hotel sector, currently he is operating two hotels under his dynamic leadership by the name Hotel Manisha at Gangotri and Hotel Markandey at Harshil . Mr.Nikhilesh Semwal will be interacting with the students of department of hospitality management and would be sharing insights about the topic “ Entrepreneurship Through Hospitality”- how be a successful entrepreneur in hotel industry, he would also be speaking about role of Graphic Era ( Deemed to be University) in his career building Not only is it a moment of happiness and nostalgia for us but also an opportunity to reflect on our learning and achievements.

World Bartender day Celebrations - day 02
The second day was dedicated towards the "Gin master class" by the Renowned Bar Tender Mr. Kuldeep Chauhan, Students were left spell bound by his knowledge and expertise which he showcased to one and all.
The session was enormously communicative with the students asking innumerable number of questions to clear their doubts, precisely and concisely answered by Mr.Chauhan.
A thorough professional, Mr.Chauhan answered all the questions which came his way.
The students were also given insights towards becoming entrepreneurs in the liquor sector around the globe.

The second session for the day was focused towards Gin appreciation, Mr. Chauhan displayed various reputed Gin's from Indian origin and also inlighted students about Gin testing technique.

World Bartender Day - day 01
On day one of the bartender day celebrations, anticipation electrified the air as mixologists in the form of participants teamed up in 25 teams from Deemed campus (Dehradun) and Hill campus (Haldwani) converged, each armed with their creativity.
The Guest of honour - Mr. Rishabh Khosla , Restaurant manager Hyatt Centric, Dehradun was welcomed by Mr. Amar Prakash Dabral ( Head of the department). Mr. Khosla shared his valuable experience and gave valuable insights of his successful and inspirational journey.
The venue of the bartending competition i.e.
the Training restaurant buzzed with excitement, illuminated by the gleam of polished bar tools and the vibrant hues of assorted spirits.
Contestants meticulously crafted their unique cocktails like Minty strawberry, Whiskey sour , Italian dipsomaniac, winter delight, sunrise etc. infusing classic techniques with innovative twists, while the judges attentively assessed every pour, shake, and garnish.
Tension mounted with each presentation, as competitors sought to captivate not only with taste but also with style and presentation.
