The syndrome is named after Dr. Alfred Wiskott, a German pediatrician who first noticed the syndrome in 1937, and Dr. Robert Anderson Aldrich, an American pediatrician who described the disease in a family of Dutch-Americans in 1954.Wiskott described three brothers with a similar disease, whose sisters were unaffected thus confirming that it is an X linked disorder.

Wiskott–Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is a rare X-linked recessive disease characterized by eczema, thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), immune deficiency, and bloody diarrhea (secondary to the thrombocytopenia).

He is known for producing the YouTube channel Vlogbrothers, where he and his older brother, John Green, regularly upload videos, as well as for creating and hosting the educational YouTube channels Crash Course and SciShow. He was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2006 and even wrote a song about it called "Ulcerative Colitis".

Squamous Cell Carcinoma is not usually life threatening but it can be aggressive!
