Position: Preschool Teacher

Responsibilities
• Develop a careful and creative program suitable for preschool children
• Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children
• Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
• Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
• Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, do crafts etc.)
• Organize nap and snack hours and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
• Track children’s progress and report to parents
• Communicate with parents regularly to understand the children’s background and psyche
• Collaborate with other educators
• Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
Requirements
• Proven experience as a Preschool Teacher
• Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
• Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
• Excellent communication and instructional skills
• Ability to act as mediator between children
• Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable
• Balance between a creative mind and a practical acumen
• A Graduate in any discipline or relevant field
• Valid licence to practice profession
• EEC certification an added advantage
• Willingness to travel overseas for training

Children should develop positive attitudes & interests in mathematics, look for patterns & relationships, spot connections, ‘have a go’, talk to adults & peers about what they notice & not be afraid to make mistakes.

Curriculum should include rich opportunities for children to develop their spatial reasoning skills across all areas of mathematics including shape, space & measures

Children should develop a secure base of knowledge & vocabulary from which mastery of mathematics is built.

Provide frequent & varied opportunities to build & apply - use manipulatives like small pebbles & tens frames for organising counting

Children should be able to count confidently, develop a deep understanding of the numbers to 10, the relationships between them & the patterns within those numbers.

Developing a strong grounding in number is essential so that all children develop the necessary building blocks to excel mathematically

Writing involves transcription (spelling and handwriting) and composition (articulating ideas and structuring them in speech, before writing).

Skilled word reading, taught later, involves both the speedy working out of the pronunciation of unfamiliar printed words & the speedy recognition of familiar printed words

Language comprehension develops when adults talk with children about the world around them and the books they read with them, and enjoy rhymes, poems and songs together.

Language comprehension (necessary for both reading and writing) starts from birth.

Reading consists of two dimensions: language comprehension and word reading.

It is crucial for children to develop a life-long love of reading.

Repeated & varied opportunities to explore & play with small world activities, puzzles, arts & crafts & the practice of using small tools, with support from adults, allow children to develop proficiency, control and confidence.

Gross motor skills provide the foundation for developing healthy bodies & social & emotional well-being.

By creating games & providing opportunities for play both indoors & outdoors, adults can support children to develop their core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness, co-ordination & agility.

The development of a child’s strength, co-ordination & positional awareness comes through tummy time, crawling & play movement with both objects & adults.
