_*Greetings from the Journal and Seminar Committee!*_

_LegisSententia_ (Legis – law or legislation; Sententia – an opinion) is the undergraduate blog of the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, overseen and regulated by its Editorial Board under the Journal and Seminar Committee of the Department.
The Blog intends to address the need for law students to remain periodically up to date with contemporaneous facets of law. With the vision of facilitating the submitter, the scope of submission has now been expanded by allowing co-authorship up to a maximum of 2 authors, adding an increment to the word limit, and increasing the number of verticals/themes under the Blog. The verticals/themes are:
1. Public Law;
2. Commercial law;
3. Intellectual Property Rights;
4. Criminal Law;
5. Labour Law;
6. Tort Law;
7. International Law and Diplomacy; and
8. National Security Law.

The Journal and Seminar Committee operates the Blog through Medium (which is available at https://medium.com/), an online publishing platform, and accepts submissions as per Calls published in various public domains.

The Editorial Board of Legis Sententia shall entertain Legal Articles as submissions for publication within the said Blog from academicians, lawyers, jurists, and students alike.
Any and all additional information, including specifics about the Editorial Board and the Editorial Policy of the Committee, can be accessed in the Blog Charter attached below.

• Editorials (not exceeding 1500 words exclusive of citations)

1. Font: Times New Roman;
2. Body Font Size: 12;
3. Citation Font Size: 10;
4. File Format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx);
5. Body Line Spacing: 1.5
6. Citation Line Spacing: 1.0;
7. Page Margin Spacing: 1″ (Top, Bottom, Left & Right); and
8. Citation Format: 20th Edition Harvard Bluebook.

*Submission Instructions*
All submissions shall be directed to *[email protected]* (the official email handle of the Journal and Seminar Committee) bearing the subject – *“Submission for Legis Sententia”* and attach brief biographical information about the author(s). E.g., ‘X is a 5th-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) student at ABC Law College’.
The submission mail shall also include the vertical/theme of the submission as well as the category of the submission made (Legal Article/Editorial).

If the Editorial Board finds any submission made for the purpose of publication within the Departmental blog mentioned herein above, is pending for review/publication or has already been published in some other institution, or that if the concerned author has resubmitted his work anywhere else before the intimation of the review result from our Editorial Board, such work shall be subjected to immediate rejection. In the event of any discrepancy, the decision of the Editorial Board shall remain final.

The Journal and Seminar Committee of the Department of Law at the University of Calcutta is delighted to share the outcomes of our 2nd National Article Writing Competition, 2023. It has been an extraordinary journey that has allowed us to witness and celebrate remarkable talent and scholarship.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation and congratulations to each participant for their dedication, hard work, and invaluable contributions made to this competition. The breadth of topics explored and the depth of research presented in your articles have not only enriched the competition but have also posed a significant challenge to our judges due to the high quality of work submitted. It is clear that the standard of entries was exceptionally high, and we commend everyone for their outstanding efforts.

We are honoured to announce the winners of the 2nd NAWC 2023 as follows:

The Journal and Seminar Committee is delighted to share a few glimpses of the Workshop titled "Rise of Corporate Legal Sector and its Impact on Upcoming Graduates" organized on 4th November, 2022 at the Department of Law.

This Workshop, attended by students from different law institutions, was the first offline event organized by the Committee post the Pandemic, wherein we had speakers from different sectors of legal profession. While three of them had graced us with their presence, we had two speakers joining us from Oxford, United Kingdom and Odisha, India.

The Committee thanks everyone who had extended their support and hopes to organize such events in the future.

The Journal and Seminar Committee of the Department of Law, University of Calcutta will be organising an offline session on "Understanding Crime, it's Theories and Jurisprudences" on the 12th of December, 2022 (Monday) at the Department.

Our esteemed speaker for the session is an alumnus of our institution, Mr. Atreya Chakraborty, of Batch 2022, who is currently pursuing LLM in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice from University of Sussex, England.

The workshop is open to all the students of the Department.

It is with pleasure that the Journal and Seminar Committee, announces the names of the members of its new Executive Board.

Uttirna Ghosh has been selected to lead JSC for this academic term and therefore is taking over the position of Anogh Chakraborty as the new Secretary of Journal & Seminar Committee for 2022-23!

Shibam Banerjee has been re-selected for the post of Executive Member and therefore shall serve JSC as the same for the academic year of 2022-23.

Finally, Ridhikamini Basu Mallick, our first appointed member from Batch 2025 has also been selected as the first Executive Member of JSC from the batch. She shall serve as an EM henceforth for the academic year of 2022-23 as well.

The Committee congratulates you all and hope that JSC reach greater heights under your able leadership in the days to come!

Legis Sententia through its last amendment in the Blog Charter has opened itself, for the first time, to the students outside Calcutta University Law Department to pursue and enhance their editorial skills by being part of our Blog Editorial Board.

Among 50+ applications received in response to our official Call, few were shortlisted and after completion of a two-tier evaluation process, two external undergrad students have been appointed as Junior Editors to the Editorial Board of Legis Sententia in an interim capacity.

One of our newly appointed General Members has also been included in the Editorial Board in the position of a Junior Editor.

We congratulate them and look forward to create scope for their respective significant contribution in the successful running of Legis Sententia while having a mutually pleasant experience!
