Antara has been awarded the 2nd prize in the Lightning Talk category at the “IASTA National Aerosol Conference on Aerosol Impacts to Air Quality, Human & Climate Change,” one of prestigious conferences for Atmospheric Sciences in India, held from 17th to 20th December 2024 at Doon University, Dehradun.
She presented her work on transported microorganisms over Eastern Himalayas and their impact on Human health.

Bose Institute participated in the Mega Exhibition "Aspiring Odisha" at Baripada, Mayurbhanj, from 12 to 14 December 2024. Besides showcasing our research achievements through scientific posters, the attraction of this exhibition was the 3-D graphics generated by scientific models of DNA and proteins. The Physics models especially signal transmission through electromagnetic waves and the Plasma Ball were the center of attraction for the kids and the high school students. Bose Institute received the 'Outstanding Participation' award for their stall and scientific demonstration.

Observation of 108th Foundation Day of Bose Institute and 85th Acharya J.C. Bose Memorial Lecture on 30.11.2024
The 108th Foundation Day of Bose Institute was celebrated at Bose Institute, Rajabazar on 30.11.2024. The programme commenced with floral offerings by Director, BI, Registrar (O), Deans, Faculty and staff at the Samadhi of Acharya Jagadis Chandra Bose, garlanding busts of J.C. Bose at J.C. Bose Museum (sculpted by renowned sculptor Shri Debiprosad Mukherjee) followed by offerings at the bust of J.C. Bose at Centenary Campus (sculpted by renowned Artist & sculptor Shri Chintamani Kar) and sculpture of J.C. Bose at Unified Academic Campus, Salt Lake (sculpted by eminent sculptor Shri Gautam Paul).
We were illuminated by the 85th Acharya J.C. Bose Memorial lecture titled “Pattern Recognition, Machine Intelligence to Deep Learning and Data Science: Evolution, Challenges and Concerns” delivered by Padma Shri Prof. Sankar Kumar Pal, National Science Chair, Government of India, President of the Indian Statistical Institute, and Distinguished Scientist and former Director of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. The entire program was held in the historic Lecture Hall and was presided over by Prof. Anuradha Lohia, Former Vice Chancellor, Presidency University, Kolkata. The oral and poster presenters of the Annual Students Symposium 2024 were awarded during the event.
The observation of the 108th Foundation day event ended with a wonderful Cultural program organized by the Research scholars and staff of the institute.

The Bose Institute Annual Symposium 2024 (BIAS 2024) was successfully held during 27th to 29th November 2024, bringing together researchers, students, and industry professionals to enrich knowledge and ideas.
Day 1 & Day 2 (27th–28th November): Unified Academic Campus (UAC)
The Symposium was inaugurated by Prof. Kaustuv Sanyal, Director, Bose Institute and Prof. Pallob Kundu, Dean of Student Affairs. Dr. Basudeb Maji, the Convenor, presented the overview of the symposium. The first two days, held at the Unified Academic Campus, featured a blend of academic and industry-focused sessions:
• Industry-Academia Meet: Engaging discussions explored opportunities for collaboration and innovation between academic research and industry applications. There were industrial representatives from Emami Ltd and TCG Life Science.
• Talk Sessions: The program included a mix of in-house presentations by Bose Institute researchers and invited talks by eminent scientists, Prof. Dibyendu Das and Prof. Pradeep K. Mohanty from IISER-Kolkata and Prof. Sangram Bagh from SINP-Kolkata, covering diverse and cutting-edge scientific topics.
• Poster Presentations: A vibrant poster session allowed participants to showcase their research and facilitated lively discussions.
Day 3 (29th November): Bose Institute Main Campus
The final day, hosted at the historic Rajabazar campus, focused on:
• In-house Talks: More in-depth presentations by institute researchers emphasized ongoing projects and new findings.
• Concluding Session: The event was concluded with value added scientific discussions for further collaborations.
• The symposium served as a platform for fostering industry-academia partnerships. High-quality research presentations and posters encouraged academic discussions and exchange of ideas. The event was well-attended, with active participation from faculty, students, and external collaborators.

Observation of 140th Birthday of Prof. Debendra Mohan Bose, the eminent Physicist and Second Director of Bose Institute on 26.11.2024.
The programme commenced with floral offerings by Director, BI, Registrar (O), Deans, Faculty and staff at the Samadhi of Prof. D.M. Bose and Acharya Jagadis Chandra Bose at Main Campus, Rajabazar, garlanding busts of Prof. D.M. Bose at D.M. Bose Wing , as well as Prof. S.N. De and Acharya Jagadis Chandra Bose at J.C. Bose Museum.
Floral offerings by eminent dignitaries were also executed in the Unified Academic Campus of the Institute. Prof. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director, Indian Statistical Institute graced the occasion by her intriguing D.M. Bose Memorial Lecture titled :" Artificial Intelligence and Life Sciences: A Synergistic Relationship". The programme was chaired by Prof. Indrani Bose, Former Professor, Dept. of Physics, Bose Institute, Kolkata and was attended by all Faculty members, students, staff and Emeritus Scientists of Bose Institute.

The 42 nd FAIR Council Meeting, the first such meet outside the FAIR site at Darmstadt, Germany, was held at Bose Institute during December 3-4, 2024 to discuss policies, challenges and way forward towards the implementation of one of the largest multipurpose particle accelerator projects of our times. Several delegates from the partner countries and FAIR/GSI Management were present in the meeting. After the meeting, the members visited the Bose Institute Main Campus and J.C. Bose Museum at Rajabazar. A cruise on the Ganges was also organized for the delegates.

It is a great pleasure to announce that Mr. Subir Mandal, UGC-JRF at the Department of Physical Sciences, working with Dr. Saikat Biswas attended the prestigious DRD1 Gaseous Detectors School at CERN, Switzerland during November 27, 2024 to December 6, 2024. In this school he attended lectures delivered by people like Prof. Fabio Sauli, Inventor of Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM), Prof. Rinaldo Santonico, Inventor of Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC), Prof. Marcello Abbrescia, An expert in gaseous detector and writer of the book "Resistive Gaseous Detectors". During the school he also presented our work in the poster session on "Characterisation of Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) Detector for High Energy Physics Experiments".

India International Science Festival (IISF) is a grand celebration of India's achievements in Science and Technology. The 10th International Science Festival (IISF) was held at IIT Guwahati from November 30 to December 03, 2024, on the theme '𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻 𝗦&𝗧-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘂𝗯'. Like every year, Bose Institute participated in the Viksit Bharat 2047, Sci-Tech Expo, Science-Technology-Defense-Space Exhibition.
Bose Institute Pavillion displayed the ongoing research activities, recent achievements, and its historic importance following the footsteps of Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose through well structured posters. Besides, the models of light mediated signal transduction, three innovative experiments and the 3D print structures and biological models were the centre of attraction. The stall was visited by Dr. Jitendra Singh , honorable Minister of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, DST and other dignitaries of DST and other pavilions. Finally, the appreciation from the young minds throughout the duration of this festival was the keynote for Bose Institute’s participation in this year’s IISF 2024 at IIT, Guwahati from 30.11.2024 to 03.12.2024. The publications from Bose Institute were displayed in the stall and were highly appreciated.
We feel proud to share that DST received the Best Pavilion in the Expo award in IISF 2024.

The meeting is being held in hybrid mode with about twenty delegates and advisors from the member countries are present physically to discuss the status, challenges and policies for the timely construction of the International multipurpose accelerator facility where India is one of the founding members and the only non-European shareholder.
