A unique technology titled, “Munh Parikshak: A non-invasive handheld, oral cancer testing device” has been invented by Prof. Jayant Kumar Singh from the Dept. of Chemical Engineering & his team at IIT Kanpur, is available for licensing.
The novel device, with IPA No. 202411015420, is a handheld and portable device developed for the early detection of oral cancer. It analyzes the health of the subject by capturing images and requires no chemicals or additional processes, making it easy to use.
It categorizes subjects as normal, premalignant, and malignant, which aids doctors and specialists in treatment. Additionally, it stores the subject's health history for tracking.

IIT Kanpur entered into an MOU with the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India. This collaboration marks the inception of a National Facility of High-Pressure-Temperature Rock Deformation at IIT Kanpur. This is a giant leap in understanding our planet's inner workings!
Under the leadership of Prof. Santanu Misra, Dept of Earth Sciences, this state-of-the-art facility will focus on the mysteries of deep-earth deformation, phase transformations, flow mechanisms, and plate tectonics, with a special focus on the region beneath the Himalayas. This is set to become a NATIONAL USER FACILITY, welcoming both Indian and international researchers. It offers a unique opportunity to conduct experiments and gather vital data on earth and other materials under extreme conditions of high pressure and temperatures.
The MOU was signed by Prof. Tarun Gupta, Dean of Research & Development IITK, and Dr. Jagvir Singh, Scientist-G/Program Head Ministry of Earth Sciences GOI.

In a remarkable display of innovation, IIT Kanpur has achieved a remarkable milestone by filing a total of 122 IPRs and achieving an exceptional licensing rate of around 14% to industry partners in 2023, marking its third straight year of securing the most IPRs in its history, taking the overall achievement to 1039 IPRs to date.
The 122 IPRs filed include 108 patents, 4 design registrations, 3 copyrights, and 1 trademark application, along with 4 US and 2 China patents. The year also saw 167 IPRs being granted with 15 technologies licensed.
The 167 patents include innovative healthcare solutions like a portable medical suction device, a continuous lung health monitoring system, solid-state sodium-ion batteries, a gas sensor for detecting ammonia at room temperature, a method and apparatus for treating industrial wastewater, a tactile watch for the visually impaired, and a lateral flow immunoassay strip for detecting mastitis in bovines.
Prof. S. Ganesh, Director, IIT Kanpur, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The institute’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of research and technology has resulted in this record-breaking number of IPRs and positioned the institute as a leader in driving positive change through intellectual contributions.”
IIT Kanpur's success extends beyond intellectual property, securing the top position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2023 in the 'Innovation' category’. Additionally, the institute has been honoured with the Best Assisted Technology Initiatives by Educational Institutes’ Award at the ATF Awards 2023 for its outstanding contributions to assistive technology activities.
The IP and Technology Transfer Office at IIT Kanpur plays a pivotal role in disseminating technologies from academia and research to the commercial sector. The Office, in addition to filing the highest number of IPRs also facilitates increased technology transfer transactions. The institute's unwavering commitment to enhancing the nation's research and development landscape and a focus on delivering impactful inventions at the grassroots level have been key contributors to the overall increase in IPR filings for IIT Kanpur.

His research interests range from bifurcation theory and nonlinear dynamics to pattern formation, fluid dynamics and astrophysics.

Indian Institute of Craft & Design, Jaipur (IICD) and IIT Kanpur entered into an MOU for undertaking collaborative work on the designed development of Rural handmade products with the objective of developing raft sector, preserving traditional arts and crafts, developing improved processes, etc. and thereby creating a positive impact in the craft ecosystem.
IIT Kanpur signs MoU with Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD) to empower rural artisans and enhance market appeal for various products.
The MoU, signed between Prof. A. R. Harish, Dean of Research and Development, IIT Kanpur and Dr. Toolika Gupta, Director IICD, has a primary objective to preserve the traditional art and craft forms, develop enhanced processes, and create innovative designs for locally made products, thereby establishing a strong connection between artisans, craft communities, and consumers.
The Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra (RSK), on behalf of IIT Kanpur, and IICD plan to work cooperatively on research, design, and development within the craft sector, with the aim of making these products more usable and marketable.
