The land for the school was bought in 1928 by the Salesian Provincial, and the church was built in 1937. It became the first parish church in the country dedicated to St. John Bosco. The technical school was begun in 1937 and started functioning in 1939.[3] The school was closed for four years from 1942 to 1946 for use by the army during the Second World War.

It was recognized by the Government in August 1948, and in 1954 the first batch of students appeared for the Senior Cambridge Exams. In July 1958, the school auditorium was inaugurated. The main building of the school was inaugurated by the Archbishop of Calcutta in November 1959.

In January 1977 the Free Night School was started, to cater to the needs of the poor children of the locality. The First Inter Schools cultural and co-curricular festival named as "Bosco Blow Up" was held on September 1977, with seven participant schools. Don Bosco Self-employment was started in August 1978 for the young men of the locality who are school drop-outs to enable them to learn a trade and earn their livelihood.[3]

The new parish church was blessed in December 1984 by Rev. Fr. K.A. Joseph, the Salesian Provincial in the presence of Rev. Fr. Mariano Uguet, who had been instrumental in acquiring and setting up the institution, and Rev. Fr. Attilio Colussi, the first Rector. A computer centre was set up in December 1986, and the following year the school celebrated its Golden Jubilee, with a function presided over by the Governor of West Bengal Nurul Hasan.

In 1997, DBL celebrated its Diamond Jubilee with a grand function presided over by the Governor of West Bengal K. V. Raghunatha Reddy. The 1990s also saw the commissioning of the north-eastern four storey building for the boarding pupils and the renovation of the Technical School building.

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
In 2012, DBL celebrated its Platinum Jubilee with an eight-day festival held on the school grounds. A statue of Don Bosco was inaugurated by Rachhpal Singh, the Minister of Tourism, for West Bengal. Many past Rectors and Salesians of the school were present, including Fr. Peter Lourdes SDB, a student in the first cohort of DBL.[4]

There is no one reason to choose Don Bosco School, Liluah for my child. When I was searching the school Wikipedia, I found following reasons.
1) The school was established in 1937. So, the journey of the school is with glorious 84 years.
2) I saw the motto of the school is "Virtus et Labor" that’s mean “Virtue of hard work”. I think that we all want our kids to be able to work hard.
3) The school facilitate with four stored main building, library; music room, auditorium, two playing fields, a series of gardens, combined basketball and tennis court. So, this will allow our children to move forward according to their potential.
4) If we believe in “ Health is Wealth” in this case there is a lot of extracurricular activities like the Boy Scouts, football, volleyball, table tennis, and karate.
5) With all of the above points when a school has successfully run 84 years, The school authorities there are always unquestionable & excellent.
6) I am the son of Howrah, my wife & my daughter are daughter of Howrah, my son is also son of Howrah. This school is located in Howrah. It is the one of the main reasons to choose this school.

Don Bosco School, Liluah, restarted the Free Night School, for the upliftment and betterment of the youth, on 10th October 2022.

The Free Night School at DBL which was started in the year 1977 by the past pupils of DBL, is now supported and looked after by the Salesians of Don Bosco.

At present there are 430 students and the numbers will increase in due course of time. The students are provided free education, along with books and study material. The school provides basic education to children upto class 8, with a team of paid dedicated teachers, under the able guidance of Father Bursar, Reverend Father A. Anandraj and supported by Father Rector, Reverend Father Davis Veliyan, Father Principal, Reverend Father Manoj Jose, Reverend Father Mani Manuel, Brother Lawrence Mondal , Father K P Thomas & Father Roshan.

Our purpose is to make education more accessible for underprivileged and deprived children with daytime obligations, which often prevent them from attending school during regular class hours. We hope to make a small difference in their lives by imparting quality education.

On the occassion of Durga Puja, Don Bosco School, Liluah, made a generous donation of food and stationery items to the people of the Mansingha Village.
