Career mentors navigate, advice and guide you towards the best. They focus on helping with the job search, strategising to achieve career goals and answering any questions you might have about yourself.

So, how exactly can they help us get our dream job?

1. Identify strengths and blind spots

Narrowing down your unique strengths and journey is key to strategising on what to look for in your first career opportunity. Many of us neglect our abilities and skills, so mentors put a spotlight on them.

This allows to better communicate your strengths during the recruitment process and apply them as superpower to develop your vision and aspirations.

2. Build your confidence

Employers identified a huge gap in students' confidence during the hiring process. Conducted studies concluded: confidence plays a vital role in candidate selection for the job position.

Fortunately, mentors can help you close the gap by identifying your value and making you understand how you should choose a career of your interests.

3. Build roadmap to career destination

Setting up career goals is one of the most crucial steps in getting the job and making the journey easy.

Career mentors help us to identify where we are heading to and set a benchmark to get there. From understanding your strengths to getting through the interview successfully, mentors allow us to get a complete roadmap to our dream career.

4. Give access to a wider network

Career mentors also enable you to increase your visibility by providing networking opportunities and identifying potential collaborations.

Their long-term presence in the industry gives them the ability to introduce you to new contacts that make sure your resume is given more than a cursory glance when submitted.

Did you have a career mentor? Share your experience - we are curious to know!

How can we, as women, improve our LinkedIn profile visibility?

LinkedIn is a powerful tool used my millions of people worldwide. We can connect and strengthen professional relationships, learn new skills and, most importantly, find the right job or internship.

Here are 4 tips to increase our chances of appearing in search results and establishing more meaningful connections:

1. Write engaging profile summary

LinkedIn summary is a great chance to tell recruiters who you are. The study shows that our profile summaries tend to be shorter than that of men.

Summaries are a great opportunity to show our accomplishments, recognitions, range of interests and goals we are trying to achieve. Make it eye-catching and outstanding.

2. List more skills

As with profile summaries, women include 11% fewer skills than men on LinkedIn.

When employers search for potential candidates, they use skills as keywords to find the most suitable person. That's why, listing more skills increases our chances of appearing in search results.

3. Make multiple language profile

LinkedIn is a powerful tool for making global connections.

We can create our profile in different language, so it is easier for others to find us. It also makes the profile more visible to recruiters who are based in another country.

4. Ask for recommendations

We can advocate ourselves on LinkedIn by asking our teammates, previous colleagues, peers to write a recommendation, which will appear on our profile.

When making recommendations for someone else, we also increase our profile's visibility, as they are accessible to anyone.

Which tips help you? Let us know!

gender equality is the 5th of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set up by the United Nations in 2015. it has been defined as “the unfinished business of our time”. evidently, females constitute half of the world’s population, but the question is why do they still remain underrepresented in a vast majority of the fields?

while there are many examples of equal opportunities being provided to girls and women, is this the pathway towards achieving equity in our society?

what do you think?
