The European Research Council (ERC) has announced the winners of its 2024 Consolidator Grant, with six researchers from Tel Aviv University among the recipients.

This grant supports advanced-career researchers in driving groundbreaking research across various scientific fields.

Winners include:
- Prof. Ben Maoz who is developing "organs-on-chips" like Immune-Me-on-a-Chip to simulate the human immune system, aiding the study of human responses to biological threats.
- Prof. Michal Feldman's work explores the intersection of economics, game theory, and computer science. Prof. Feldman's latest ERC-funded research explores the theoretical foundations of Algorithmic Contract Theory.
- Dr. Ilya Kaminker's work on advanced spectroscopic methods in paramagnetic resonance aims to revolutionize our understanding of quantum phenomena.
- Dr. Tsachi Hagai's research examines viral mimicry in protein structures and host-virus interactions.
- Prof. Gal Oestreicher-Singer's ERC project investigates the impact of large language models (LLMs) on engagement within online collaborative communities.
- Prof. Dor Salomon's research includes studying bacterial toxin secretion systems for novel antibiotic treatments.

Prof. Ben Maoz, from the faculty of Biomedical Engineering and the Sagol School of Neuroscience at Tel Aviv University, let us into his lab to share his research.

Today marks the final day of the U.S. Week at TAU, a vibrant series of events celebrating American culture and academics.

The day's first event was an engaging session with renowned Israeli author Etgar Keret, discussing his works and their connections to American culture. The talk was hosted by Dr. Yoav Fromer from the Department of English and American Studies at TAU.

An interactive tour focusing on the history and identity of Jews in America was held at the ANU - Museum of the Jewish People, followed by a lecture by Shay Even on the secrets behind political marketing.

U.S. Week ended with a Thanksgiving dinner with Hillel Tel Aviv ื”ืœืœ ืชืœ ืื‘ื™ื‘, where international and Israeli students gathered to celebrate the festivities.

Day three of U.S. Week at Tel Aviv University started with an education fair with participants from TAU's Exchange Program, Education USA, Fulbright Israel ืคื•ืœื‘ืจื™ื™ื˜ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, America Hub Israel, New York University, along with American-style cultural activities such as a graffiti painting session, a breakdance show, and a jazz performance.

We held two discussions on campus during the day, the first being a panel about doing business with the U.S. as well as a debate with TAU's model UN about immigration reform. In the evening, we held a gospel choir workshop with Shai Portugaly.

Today, we kicked off U.S. Week at The Lowy International School with a U.S. Post-Elections Panel: Understanding the Results and Consequences. This engaging panel featured experts from Tel Aviv University, including Dr. Brandon Friedman, Dr. Yoav Fromer, Dr. Naama Maor, and Prof. Udi Sommer. They provided an in-depth analysis of the recent U.S. election results, discussing their implications and consequences on both domestic and international fronts.

Later in the day, followed by a U.S. Post-Elections Roundtable, moderated by Dr. Yael Shomer, this roundtable explored the root causes behind the election outcomes and their potential long-term effects on American politics and its relationship with Israel.

Representatives from Tel Aviv University, including Vice President Prof. Milette Shamir and Director of Asian Affairs Konstantin Platonov, conducted a two-week trip to China in September between the Mid-Autumn Festival and China's National Day.

The delegation engaged in productive meetings with key partners across Beijing, Jinan, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hong Kong.

In Beijing, the delegation aligned on long-term projects with prestigious institutions such as Tsinghua, Peking, Renmin Universities, and Beijing Foreign Studies University.

In Jinan, a new 5-year term agreement was identified for the SDU-TAU Joint Institute for Jewish Studies at Shandong University (SDU).

At PKU Institute of Advanced Agricultural Studies (IAAS) in Weifang, the delegation met with IAAS-TAU joint PhD program students and learned about the Institute's groundbreaking research in advanced agriculture and food security.

The visit to Hong Kong allowed for reconnecting with colleagues at HKUST and City UHK and creating a promising developmentin Digital Humanities and Liberal Arts at Shue Yan University.

The delegation also visited Carmel Elsa School and engaged with donors from HK Jewish community and TAU HK Friends.

Engaging discussions took place in Shanghai with Fudan University, Shanghai University, the Center for Jewish Studies at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and the Jewish Refugees Museum.

The final stop was Nanjing University and its Institute for Jewish and Israeli Studies.

A crucial part of the trip focused on leveraging the TAU alumni network in China, with notable input from Mr. You L., a dedicated TAU alumnus.

The Lowy International School delegation thanks Israeli diplomats in China, particularly Ambassador Irit Ben-Abba and Consuls General Ravit Baer and Amir Lati, for their support during the trip.
