Let’s embrace the Maryknoll Spirit as we step into 2024!
As we embark onto a new year, let us reflect on the essence of the Maryknoll spirit that has shaped us and continues to inspire us.
Watch this documentary video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4Tk2pEz29E&t=3s), which is a heartfelt tribute to Mother Mary Joseph and her vision for the Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic. It showcases treasured footage of beloved Maryknoll Sisters, and highlights the 7 core values of the Maryknoll spirit that has been guiding us along our life journey.
As Foundation Chairperson Ms. Cordelia Chung, quoting Sr Birtrina Kirway, said, "With a Heart to Love, and the Will to Serve... that is putting the Maryknoll spirit in action.”
May 2024 be a year of renewed dedication, growth, and compassion as we continue to preserve and pass on the Maryknoll spirit in the education of our girls at MCS.
In Loving Memory:

100 Acts of Kindness
“As one lamp lights another nor grows less, so nobleness enkindles nobleness” is one of the most important virtues a Maryknoller upholds. As a special part of our centenary celebrations, we have launched the “100 Acts of Kindness” since 2022, aiming to spread kindness and make a positive impact to our community.
To symbolize the essence of this initiative, we have designed a beautiful logo that represents the enduring spirit of Maryknoll Convent School and our commitment to fostering a culture of kindness and empathy. Each colourful line in the logo signifies the multitude of acts of kindness performed by our Maryknoll family. Together, we have embarked on a journey of compassion and generosity that will leave a lasting legacy.
The intersecting lines within the logo form a total of 100 lines, each line represents a unique act of kindness that we aim to achieve. The colours used in the logo are inspired by the school crest, reflecting our rich heritage and cherished traditions. These colours evoke a sense of warmth, unity, and inclusivity.
Throughout the centenary celebration, we will be organizing a variety of acts of kindness that aim to make a difference in the lives of others. From community service projects to charitable initiatives, we invite all members of our Maryknoll community to join us in spreading kindness far and wide.
Stay tuned for updates on the upcoming acts of kindness events and opportunities to get involved. Together, let’s create a ripple effect of compassion and make our centenary celebration a remarkable one.

Today is Maryknoll Day. Let’s celebrate our beautiful legacy!
“I was moved to tears seeing the Maryknoll spirit nurtured by our forbearers some 98 years ago so alive in the students, faculty and alums. Such a beautiful legacy!” One of the Sisters made this remark after spending time in PS and SS on 13 October.
While we are happy to hear this, it is also a stark reminder of MCS Foundation’s important responsibility, as the school sponsoring body, to carry the baton truthfully according to Sisters’ vision and mission and that the Maryknoll spirit is preserved and enriched in the ever-changing world.
Hong Kong’s education space certainly has its share of changes and challenges. Recently, emigration and low admission forced several schools to be closed. Some Catholic schools expressed concern that lacking religious personnel affects their ability to keep their religious mission and spirit alive.
We are fortunate that our Sisters have foresight and wisdom two decades ago. The Sisters foresaw fewer missionaries coming to Hong Kong to serve in education as they are needed in other services and other countries. The Sisters decided to pass the baton to the alums. Hence, the MCS Foundation was set up in 2004 as the school sponsoring body (SSB), and the MCSF Council was formed to provide strategic guidance, supervision, and spiritual development of the school. We continue to have Sr Marilu Limgenco and Sr Sue Glass as mentors, providing spiritual guidance.
Furthermore, to ensure the Maryknoll spirit can be sustained and renewed, the Council has set up a Committee of Maryknoll Spirit (CMS) to encapsulate and infuse the core components in different aspects of Maryknoll education. This is a work in progress – to keep the beautiful legacy alive.
To make today special, we have put big smiles on our primary and secondary students by treating them ice cream. Happy Maryknoll Day everyone!

A day of unity, joy, and global connection!
We were graced with the presence of over 30 beloved Maryknoll Sisters and a Maryknoll priest visiting our school on 13 October. They travelled from Asia Pacific locations where they are doing missionary work and from Motherhouse, embracing us with their spirit of faith, service and love.
Hailing from East Timor, Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Philippines, Taiwan, and USA, and despite the miles and borders between us, the connection was warm, loving and spontaneous. We gathered as one family as our talented Primary and Secondary students welcomed them with curious hearts and impressive performances.
Our hearts are filled with gratitude and admiration. Each story shared, each interaction, and every precious moment has left an indelible mark on us. As we reflect on this special occasion, we are reminded of the beauty of the unity of spirit that lies within the uniqueness of each individual and the strength found in our diverse backgrounds.
🎶 "Give me joy in my heart, keep me praising. Keep me praising 'til the break of day." 🎶 This hymn resonated in our hearts, echoing the shared commitment to serve our One Earth community. We are proud to be part of a community that cherishes diversity and strives for unity, today and every day.
Together, we will forever stay true to our commitment, embrace and honor the uniqueness that makes us who we are. We are the Maryknoll family, and these values will guide us as we continue to serve our home, our country and the world.
