✨KT Professional Talk Series Highlight ✨
“Technology-driven Assessment Solution for K-12 Schools in Hong Kong”

Prof. Yan Zi, Professor and Head of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, introduced an innovative AI-supported assessment solution to transform K-12 education in Hong Kong on 18 Mar 2026. With the support of the Knowledge Transfer Fund 2024/25, this project is designed to enhance student learning while reducing educators’ repetitive workload, the project delivers personalised, adaptive learning through adaptive assessment, automated scoring, and an AI tutor.

🔎The talk explained how the initiative built a curriculum-aligned, customisable assessment framework and developed an initial prototype for adaptive assessments, in collaboration with local schools and publishers. It also highlighted how the approach empowers teachers to focus on high-quality instruction and individual student support, while creating a community of practice to sustain innovation across Hong Kong schools.

🔎“From impact assessment to scientific research: Revisiting the pathway of applying psychological knowledge for sports and health”

On 9 March 2026, Prof. Derwin Chan, Professor of the Department of Social Sciences, Hong Kong Metropolitan University, shared findings from Hong Kong’s largest learn-to-swim program, which delivered 20 lessons to 16,500 primary school students. Using a pre–post-test quasi-experiment, the study conducted by Prof. Chan evaluated the program’s impact, then extended into a longitudinal follow-up to examine long-term outcomes. The research also produced new hypotheses about children’s swimming competence and the psychological factors that support sustained sports participation.

The seminar highlighted the dataset’s broader contribution, showing how impact assessments can advance social and behavioural science research by deepening understanding of the social and psychological drivers of swimming mastery in Hong Kong.

⭐KT Professional Talk Series Highlight⭐— Innovating Education, Health, and Inclusive Futures

In March 2026, the KT sub-office hosted four KT sharing talks, bringing together our academic, teaching, and research staff alongside students, with overall participation of over 250.✨

These sessions highlighted our diverse research journey — from applying psychological knowledge to enhance sports and health, to developing technology-driven assessment solutions for K-12 schools in Hong Kong, and advancing inclusive pedagogy through ABL and VR for SEN students. Beyond education, we also showcased innovations in rehabilitation, bridging theory and practice with novel hand assessment technologies that move seamlessly from clinical deployment to real-world evaluation.

🚀 Together, these projects embody our mission to harness science, technology, and creativity in driving meaningful impact across communities.
