CSO took the wonderful opportunity of celebrating the success of Charter Day! We want to acknowledge all our hardworking men and women that dedicated their personal time to the organization during that one month duration of laborious work. As we mark the end of Spring Break for UOG, we look back on today’s event as a token of our appreciation for our members!

The executive team recently met up at Wendy’s Barrigada to discuss upcoming events for our organization. This was our first time back at Wendy’s after a whole month of just having meetings on campus due to Charter Day preparation!

Ran Annim, all!

We would like to thank everyone who made this possible! All hands were on deck throughout the one month of preparation for Charter Day. We are truly grateful for everyone’s support. From our boys who worked on the hut and their stick dances, to the girls weaving and practicing on their chants, to all our supporters who came out to watch us doing our thing once again. We appreciate each and every one of you guys! RAIN OR SHINE, WE BURN! ❤️‍🔥

We want to extend our utmost gratitude to our girls for showcasing our culture through chants and a stick dance. Yes, the girls did their version of a stick dance. They said, “if the boys can do once, so can we!” All jokes aside, we are proud of our girls for their amazing performance.

We would like to extend our greatest gratitude to our boys for a job well done on executing a variety of cultural stick dances on Charter Day! The boys got to release the warrior-like instinct in them, as one would say. The heat alone did not stop the boys from maintaining strong mannerisms throughout the stick dances.

We would like to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all our members who contributed to the Hut Competition. Your contribution helped us secure the 2nd place. We had the wonderful opportunity of presenting our beautiful hut and our unique culture to our very own President Dr. Enriquez, SVVP Dr. Santos-Bamba, and Director Reyes. It was such a humbling experience!

On a hot sunny afternoon in the middle of UOG’s courtyard stood a group of young men and women that tirelessly chanted and danced under the sun, burning dark blue like the Pacific Ocean & dark blue like our flag of Chuuk. 💙💙💙💙

In Chuukese, we say “Apwan tori ach fansoun,” which translates to “The time has come.”

In this context, the time had come for CSO to pass on the baton to a new successor. Humbly speaking, CSO is notably known for always being a top contender in the Hut Competition at UOG’s annual Charter Days.

We are truly proud of our team for pulling through despite all the challenges they faced. With the shortage of boys and lack of resources, they still managed to build something to present to our wonderful judges. We are proud of our girls for being the backbone of our boys throughout the whole process. This was truly a collaborative and inspiring effort amongst our boys and girls displaying the true meaning behind: EKICHU, TIPECHU, ANGECHU!

From a general standpoint, a flag represents a nation. But the symbol of a flag goes beyond just that. A flag represents the people and most importantly, it represents the culture.

On Charter Day, we proudly raised our flag to celebrate our beautiful islands of Chuuk and to show our culture that day.

The UOG Chuuk Student Organization (CSO) displayed its culture once more at the 56th Annual Charter Day celebration. We are so proud to announce that we came in 2nd place!!

This time around, we incorporated something that showcased the beautiful regions that make up Chuuk: Northern Namoneas (where the capital Weno is based), Southern Namoneas, Faichuuk, Mortlocks, and Northwest.

By showcasing this, it reminds us that Chuuk consist of 5 regions that are all different and unique in their own ways but are all united under ONE CHUUK. Unity Through Diversity is truly a hidden motto of the beautiful islands of Chuuk.

We are grateful and proud to represent our culture in any way possible.

From the bottom of our hearts at CSO, KINISOU CHAPUR!! 💙💚❤️🧡💛

PS, color codes of the regional attires are as follows:

Southern Namoneas 💚
Faichuuk ❤️
Mortlocks 🧡
Northwest 💛

In everything that you do, always reach for the stars. As Charter Day approaches in a few hours, we want to share with you all that we have learned. Through our trials and tribulations, we have learned to keep our heads up high and simply reach for the stars. And reach for the stars we will, come tomorrow.

We will miss all the memories created this chapter as we prepare to execute it in a few hours and close it out afterwards. It will all be a memory eventually. As we look up the stars, we will start to reminisce these memorable times.

CSO had the wonderful opportunity of participating in the welcoming of WSCUC held in the SBPA atrium. We got the chance to fill the atrium with some of the beautiful voices of our officers and members and showcase what our organization is about!

As the near the end of “Charter Day Prep” szn, we look back on some highlights from the past few weeks. From cutting and skinning the wood, to weaving the leaves, building the hut, and the endless nights of cultural chants and stick dances along with some contemporary ideas put together, we are so excited to showcase our culture at this year’s 56th Annual Charter Day of UOG.

None of this would have been possible without the support and commitment of our members and officers. These long nights have been met with challenges, but along the way we continued to build a camaraderie that will continue to unite CSO as one whole team.

A new year often begins with new changes. We are happy to announce our team of 12 officers along with our very own student advisor added to the roster of CSO’s executive team of Spring 2024.

Interesting Fact: This executive team has officers from of all the 5 regions of Chuuk: Northern Namoneas, Southern Namoneas, Faichuuk, Mortlocks, and Northwest. A unique combination brings together the best of all worlds, in this case, 5 regions!

We look forward to working with each and every one of you!

With Charter Day around the corner, the executive team met up this evening to discuss about what the coming weeks will look like for our organization. Today’s meeting was lengthy and productive and we are excited to be back in the process of what we so call “the bonding days,” as Charter Day season is known as a time for our members to build camaraderie with one another while learning and absorbing the beautiful culture of Chuuk.

Unbeknownst to us, we were in the same room as The Honorable Senator-At-Large Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia Mr. Fabian Nimea! Although our meeting with you was short and brief, we are glad to have met you in person! Thank you for the words of encouragement about staying in school. As first generation students ourselves, those words of encouragement really helps us push through. It was truly a great pleasure and humbling experience meeting you!

The executive team had a dinner this evening as a way of celebrating our hard work done the past semester. Due to time constraints, we had to no choice to schedule our dinner to a later date to accommodate everyone’s schedule. As the saying goes, “Better late than never!”

We thank the executive team for their leadership and their commitment to our organization. We look forward to seeing the great ideas set to unfold this semester!

CSO participated in today’s Welcome Back! Event at the UOG Calvo Field House. It is always a humbling experience to get to share our culture with our fellow peers & today we did just that! Our club will always stand by its core value of Unity through Diversity.

A keynote detail is our club banner which was sponsored by Fish & Kon last year continues to be what represents us in the eye of the public at events like this. A huge KINISOU CHAPUR to Fish & Kon Mart for sponsoring our banner!

On behalf of our executive team and all our members, we would like to wish you all the best this upcoming semester! We are stoked to get this semester started!!

Ran Annim, all!

Our journey that started nearly a month ago has finally come to an end! Spanning over all 6 public high schools on Guam, CSO made it a goal to be the bridge between all the respective high schools and higher education (UOG).

We had the wonderful opportunity of meeting students from across the island. We humbly thank all the schools for allowing us to turn our vision into a reality. We encouraged, educated, and advised them about the importance of higher education and opportunities to combat financial barriers at the higher educational level.

Many, if not all of us, grew up knowing and seeing the way our people and our culture were perceived by the media and the natives of the islands we called our home.

As future leaders of the world & most importantly our region of Micronesia, it is our turn to change the narrative. Not for the satisfaction of the people who perceive us as such, but for our future children so they could have a better life.

We are grateful for the privilege of being able to share our knowledge, experience, and testimonies with our younger folks!

Aspire to do great things, the best is yet to come!
