It is with great sadness that I inform you that Yvonne Chandler passed away last night at the Grapevine Medical Lodge. Yvonne served as President of TLA in 2013-14, and was profoundly proud of her work with the association. She was a mentor, teacher, and friend to so many, and will be greatly missed. I most certainly will miss her hug, smile, and voice when we would see each other at conference each year.
Below is a brief statement that was sent to the faculty and staff at UNT, where she served as a faculty member:
We all know about her strong, hard-working, gracious, and vivacious personality. Her devotion to her students and her passion for shaping their career paths are a part of her legacy. Her commitment to impact the quality of library education and have diversity in the workforce of the library profession was evident in all her professional activities. This was clearly demonstrated with her IMLS grants. Her presence was felt beyond UNT, as she gave us visibility at state, national, and international professional associations.
TLA will be sharing an announcement with members and will also be sending flowers to the family. We will share more information about funeral and memorial services when we know more.
Sincerely, Christina
