From Underdog to Champion
This wrestling season, one junior captain, Noka Lokeijak, a student from Career Tech High Academy Charter School and an athlete affiliated with the Southern High School Wrestling Team, proved that heart, discipline, and belief matter more than statistics.
After eight dual meets and only one challenge during the regular season, she entered the All-Island Championship as the underdog. Her opponent had beaten her before, and most people expected the same outcome.
But this rivalry had history.
As a freshman, she was pinned in under a minute. As a sophomore, after intense offseason training with her father, she came back and pinned the same opponent just as quickly. Junior year would decide it all.
During the regular season, her opponent won by points. At All-Island, both wrestlers moved up a weight class, setting up a long-awaited championship match.
“I was nervous,” she admitted. “I cried before my match. I prayed to God and kept Him close.”
The final went the distance—ending in a tie, followed by sudden death and two additional overtime rounds. After three overtimes, she won by points and earned the gold medal.
Her goal this season was clear. “I wanted gold,” she said, “but more than that, I wanted to be a role model for my teammates.”
As a captain, she carried that responsibility with pride.
After the match, the rivals shook hands and shared a moment of respect. “Iron sharpens iron,” she said. “She pushed me to be better.”
Looking ahead, she plans to continue wrestling after college and hopes to compete internationally for the Republic of the Marshall Islands, following in her father’s footsteps as a gold medalist.
“Wrestling challenges you mentally,” she said. “Just stepping on the mat takes guts.”
This season, she proved that champions aren’t defined by predictions—but by perseverance.

Career Tech High Student Leaders Meet Guam’s Governor in Inspiring Leadership Field Trip
Career Tech High Academy student leaders had an extraordinary opportunity on Thursday, December 11, 2025, as they met with Hon. Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero, Governor of Guam, during a special leadership field trip designed to inspire the next generation of island leaders.
Representing their classes, clubs, and varsity teams, these exceptional students engaged directly with the Governor to learn about public service, decision-making, and the responsibilities that come with leading a community.
The conversation highlighted the importance of civic engagement and the powerful role young people play in shaping Guam’s future.
Their visit to Adelup was the first stop in a day filled with meaningful dialogue, mentorship, and real-world leadership experiences with Guam’s top officials.
The students capped off the day by strengthening teamwork and camaraderie with an open bowling session at Central Lanes—celebrating not only what they learned, but the growing leadership culture at Career Tech High.
Career Tech High is proud of these student leaders and their commitment to growth, service, and excellence.
Career Tech High Holds First Official Boys Basketball Team Meeting
Career Tech High Academy held its first official Boys Basketball Team meeting on Tuesday, December 9, 2025—marking an exciting start to the season and setting clear expectations for excellence on and off the court.
Athletic Director Mr. Jeff Warfield opened the meeting by emphasizing that grades and behavior matter. “You are representatives of our school,” he reminded students, stressing that character is just as important as athletic ability. He also welcomed returning players and acknowledged the contributions of former Head Coach Bret Staff, whose leadership helped build the foundation of the program.
New Head Coach Arnel delivered a strong message about commitment, teamwork, and attitude. He encouraged players to be coachable, adjust when needed, and unite as one group. “Effort is everything,” he said. “Show us you’re committed. Small things can go a long way.”
This season also welcomes valuable support from experienced teammates. Alex Jorlang, last year’s Varsity starter and Team Captain, attended the meeting and will assist the coaching staff with drills and player development.
Coach Arnel further stressed the importance of communication—translating lessons from practice to the court, supporting teammates, and being humble enough to both give and receive guidance. “Basketball is not about my basket. It’s about our team.”
Players were also urged to focus on health and preparation, from proper nutrition and hydration to rest and pre-game routines. He encouraged athletes to continue practicing at home—dribbling, training, and staying consistent.
The program also recognized Ms. Chiara Sgambelluri, serving as the Booster Team Leader, who will support the team throughout the season.
Career Tech High looks forward to a disciplined, united, and promising season ahead.
