Berean Bear Cubs

Operating as usual

It's Friday! End of the first school week of the New Year and our 3rd Birthday to boot! We finally managed to Upload 'The 12 Days of the Christmas Story' in song a la Berean Bear Cubs!! For your enjoyment! Have a great weekend!

This is 'lifted' from our Registration Form:
We work under the auspices of The Berean Community Church and seek to provide a high-quality education for the young children in our care, across the broad spectrum of the Early Years Curriculum, here in Kololi, the Gambia. We offer the best start to learning that your child can have, using a ‘broad and balanced’ International Curriculum, tailor-made for young children, centred in play, and using the latest materials available. We are committed to equality of provision across the board as we foster the growth of highly self-motivated, independent and confident young learners. The Teaching and Learning environment we have established nurtures the joy of learning as we have high expectations for behaviour! Esther is a successful, competent teacher with over 40 years experience of teaching young children.

Our aim for the children (depending on how long they are with us) is that with the knowledge, skills and understanding that we help them acquire they:
- will be able to read and write at an age-appropriate level,
- will be able to commnicate well through spoken English,
- will enjoy listening attentively to stories, singing songs and rhymes,
- will become fluent in basic Problem-Solving, Reasoning & Numeracy concepts,
- will develop a keen sense of awe and wonder about the created world they observe around them,
- will be able to express themselves creatively, using a variety of media,
- will grow strong and healthy and become physically agile,
- will develop socially and emotionally through play and interactions with their peers and begin to understand some of the differences in other peoples beliefs.
Our hope is that, on leaving our school for their next life journey, our children will be able to fit happily into any school they later attend and that they not only cope well, but continue to thrive and excel! We trust that they will put into practice what they have learnt at Berean Bear Cubs and that it will stand them in good stead for the future, so they will lead productive lives, serving not just themselves and their family, but ultimately, the wider community and nation.

School hours are: Monday to Friday (5 days a week). School starts each day at 9:00 a.m. SHARP! and ends at 1:00 p.m. SHARP!! Lateness, without good reason, may result in your child forfeiting their FREE place at our school. We believe good habits in punctuality and attendance need to start early on in life but we cannot teach children who are not in school!
Please note: Children now need to eat a healthy breakfast before they get to school each morning, as we cannot continue to give half-an-hour a day of Teaching and Learning Time to eating breakfasts any longer! We will, however, have a shorter Breaktime mid-morning for drinks and snacks. Please send a bottle of water/juice to school each day for your child to drink.
Please note: Porridge is great ‘brain food’ for breakfasts as it slowly releases energy throughout the morning so that children do not loose energy and concentration while at school. Bread is not so good, albeit an easier option, as it has little roughage.
Please Note: Children will not be allowed onto the compound before school until 8:30a.m. as staff do not start working until then, so there is nobody to watch them!
Please Note: Every child MUST be collected from school at 1:00p.m. please! We cannot pay Childminders for latecomers! We will now be much stricter and record latecomers a ‘Late Book’ and Esther will send home a ‘Late Slip’ if your child is NOT collected on time….at the very latest by 1:30! Strictly: ‘3 Slips and your child is OUT!’ We do happily give of our time and energy for the children for 5++ hours each day but we all have ‘Home lives’ and families too, so please be mindful of the workers!

School uniform: is simply any cool, comfortable (preferably lightweight cotton), blue and white clothes of your choice. Jeans/shorts/skirts/leggins/tee-shirts/dresses/etc. of any practical style and sensible footwear. Please: No open-toed slippers, for obvious Health & Safety reasons!
P.E. days are: Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Please write your child’s full name and date-of-birth, then sign and date the form below with your intention of taking up this offer and give us your contact number (in case of Emergency). If you have NOT returned the signed form by Friday, 16th September 2022, we will assume you are NOT interested in your child benefitting from this offer of a place at BCCBC, so we will cancel it and offer it to another child on the Waiting List.
Looking forward to many more happy days ahead!
Kind regards,
Esther Clifton, Aunty Hawa, Aunty Faith, Uncle Stanley, Aunty Winifred, Aunty Emily, and Uncle Victor.
Please note: By signing this Registration Form you agree to actively support your child’s learning experience at BCCBC to your best ability. You also need to understand that Esther and each of our Classroom Assistants take the role of ‘loco parentis’ very seriously while your children are in school and we take on our Duty of Care with great vigilance. We have an excellent ‘adult: child ratio of 1:4’, so any Health & Safety issues involved are taken at your own risk and discretion and with your permission, as the Parent/Guardian of the named child.
