Is there such a thing as work / life balance?
Remembering training on wellbeing & resilience, just before the Covid-19 outbreak where the facilitator made a bold statement ‘there is no work life balance, there is just life’.
An argument against this sentiment is we should recognise that our work & life are separate entities & we should strive for a ‘healthy’ balance for our mental health & wellbeing & we should not work all the hours etc?
Failing to understand (at that time) we only have one life & our lives don’t stop when we get to work or start when we get home. We have just one, continual life & work is an element of that life. An element that we should be sure to include but not to prioritise to the detriment of all else. So, should we really be asking the question not how to gain a better work life balance, but how establish a life balance which is right for us?
The Harvard Business review published an article in 2021 discussed research into the idea of work life balance as a cycle, one which we should be continually engaged with as our life priorities shift. The research contained 5 steps to the cycle. We recognise the need for tracking & monitoring any changes we implement, following our refocusing as an essential element of making sure that the work/life balance we’re establishing is working for us.

One year ago, Ben Wakefield joined WELL! Ben was thrown in the deep end with mostly a team of very chatty ladies, but he has coped very WELL! Ben's technical knowledge has been very insightful for his learners through the introduction of new presenting software & skills, most recently using AI, for new ways of working. Thank you Ben, we hope the last twelve months hasn't been too painful!

Nicola Baxter (aka Mrs Claus) spent the day with Italian-influenced coffeehouse Caffè Nero HiPer Managers at their Head office in London this week. The session took a very seasonal turn when their project management topic was based around setting up a Christmas grotto but not to tip the learners over the edge with too much Christmas talk, Nic also advised on their EPA expectations & portfolio evidence. The future Caffè Nero Area Managers, making Nero's future bright.

National Inclusion Week, Thursday's take action – embedding inclusion. It’s important to take a step back & dive into the work your organisation has done so far this week & to make sure work is being done to embed inclusion. However, it can be a challenge to embed real change throughout an entire organisation. Start by breaking down your organisation structure, understand each role & how inclusion is part of each role. Next, tackle your biggest issues & agree a long-term plan. Take action to embed a positive change!

WELL Training Away Day 2023; bringing the team together, to encourage lateral thinking, to improve wellbeing, build on teamwork skills & make memories in the glorious sunshine with the ideal setting of NPF Pole Adventure Park. A morning spent discussing 2022-23 achievements, new targets & exciting times ahead, followed by axe throwing & laser shooting (Ben Wakefield, a clear winner in both activities), perfect activity hosts in Jay & Brad, who made the afternoon with lots of laughs (mainly at the team!), what a brilliant day & thank you!
