Shooting Stars Nursery Wolverhampton
Welcome to Shooting Stars! We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality of childcare in a saf
Operating as usual

We recently hosted our very first quarterly Deputy Managers’ meeting | Our Deputy Managers are second in command at nursery, and often called upon to step up to ‘steer the ship’ when the Nursery Manager is training, in meetings or on holiday | They offer hands-on support and on-the-job coaching to the Childcare team in the rooms, in addition to overseeing a vast array of administrative tasks to support the Nursery Manager | No two days are the same in the job of a Deputy Manager, so we decided to gather them all together regularly to ensure they feel supported, motivated and challenged in their roles | This quarter, we focused on innovative ways to develop our overall quality and customer experiences, reviewed staff retention and staff well-being approaches and strategies for coaching and mentoring others | The meeting was fuelled by some great home cooked food courtesy of our resident chef, Peter! | Area Manager Steph said: "The meeting was a great success, and the energy and passion of our Deputy Managers was infectious. It was fantastic to facilitate an opportunity to network and share great practice. We are all looking forward to the next meeting in December, where we’re sure to bring some festive fun into the mix in Shooting Stars style!" ✨

✨ Introduction to settling in ✨
✨ At Shooting Stars we understand that starting nursery, moving from another setting and transitioning through the nursery can sometimes be an unsettling time and so we provide plenty of support to ease the transition for young children and parents alike. Our gentle ‘settling in’ programme gives your child the time to become familiar with their Key Person and surroundings before their first full session.
✨‘Settling in’ usually consists of at least two complimentary visits that are prearranged during the month leading up to your child’s official start date, or planned room move date. If you feel your child would benefit from a little longer to settle, we will be happy to arrange further visits upon request.
✨ Settling for the first time at nursery: On the first visit we encourage you to join your child in their base room to give them reassurance when they meet their Key Person and the other children. On the second visit we encourage you to step out of the room to enable your child to explore their new environment and resources independently. You have the option of viewing your child’s settling session on the CCTV screen for reassurance.
✨ Room transitions: When your child is ready to move up to the next base room, we will let you know so that we can begin planning for their transition. With a small group of their peers, your child will start to spend time playing in their new room.
Before a child’s room transition, we encourage parents to meet with their existing and new Key Person to share information about their child in a Working in Partnership meeting. This helps us to prepare for a smooth transition into the care of their new Key Person.
✨ We hope that joining us at Shooting Stars, and progressing through the nursery, will be a positive and exciting experience for you and your child and we’re here to offer support every step of the way.

It's crazy to think that this time last week it was so hot that we were cooling down in the shade, mark making with ice! 🥵❄️ The children were intrigued by how the ice melted so quickly in their hands and seeped into the colourful paper, creating darker shades and ripples. Rolling out some large paper on the ground offered the children a blank canvas to contribute to a group textured picture using natural resources. Accessing play opportunities on a variety of surfaces offered at different heights also helps the children to develop and strengthen gross motor skills as they squat, balance, lean and reach. ✨
Staff meetings are an important part of nursery life for our team. A time to cascade important information, share ideas, explore best practice, introduce improvements, learn new skills and broaden knowledge. But it's also a time to gather, share ideas, enjoy ourselves (and snacks!) and get creative! Our room team challenge this month was to create a basket of food to share at the meeting based around a colour. We enjoyed some amazing home-baked treats and even fresh lemonade! ✨

To all the children starting school this week, wishing you the very best of luck! 🤩 (And to all the parents waving them off at the school gates, don't forget to pack the tissues!) 🥹✨

REMINDER: We are closed to all children on Monday 28th August for the Bank Holiday. Have a great long weekend! ✨
🌺☀️ S T A Y & P L A Y 🍉🏝 at the 'Costa del Compton Road West'! It's always a pleasure to welcome parents & carers to join us for some fun with their little ones here at Shooting Stars ✨ We were fortunate to host our recent session outside in our garden, where everyone enjoyed some summer-themed fun ✨
As we approach the end of August and say our final goodbyes to our Preschool children, we look back with such fondness on all the fun we’ve had together over their time at Shooting Stars. Our Preschool leavers celebration was no exception – what a party! So we just want to say a big G O O D L U C K P R E S C H O O L !! It's been a joy and privilege to support the children through their early years journey, and we are so proud of them all, leaving us with happy memories, beautiful friendships, bags of confidence, and excitement for everything that school has to offer them. You are truly amazing little people and we'll miss each and every one of you very much!

Do you remember making shadow animals with your hands on your bedroom wall as a child? 🔦 Exploring light and shadow can be truly enchanting for little ones, creating shapes that dance, shrink, grow, merge and change as they move. Learning cause and effect. Investigating space and dimension. It's truly magical when you think about all of the things you can create, and how you can make them disappear and reappear at the flick of a switch! 🪄✨
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 S T A R S ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our kitchen team were praised for their confidence and diligence in our most recent routine Environmental Health visit. We are so proud and delighted that the 5/5 rating reflects the daily commitment of all staff to stringent food safety and hygiene standards, to help keep the children happy and healthy at nursery.

Well that was lunch sorted for the Toddler team!!! 😋 So grateful for this thoughtful Thank You gift of delicious samosas ordered in from a family moving on from the Toddler room. 💙

Meet the Team ✨ Hi, I’m Nicola but everyone calls me Nic. I have worked as a nursery nurse for many years. Seeing the children learn new things every day as they grow and develop is the reason why I enjoy my job as much as I do. I am a mom of 4 children so life can be very busy! In my spare time I enjoy reading and going on camping adventures with my family ✨
From the moment they're born, children use their senses to discover the world around them. Children are natural explorers, born ready for sensory play. 🫳👀👂👃👅
Sensory play is any activity that stimulates the senses – touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste (We also interact with the world through body awareness, movement and balance). It helps children interact with and make sense of the world, and themselves. Sensory activities can be adapted for different ages, needs and abilities and often don’t require any special ‘sensory’ equipment. Sensory play plays an important role in a child’s learning and development:
🌎 Helping children understand how their actions affect what’s around them
🧠 Supporting brain development, enhancing memory and problem solving
✍️ Developing fine motor skills
🗣 Supporting language development, communication and social skills
💡 Encouraging creative and independent thinking
😊 Emotional regulation by providing a calming effect

Whether you're at work today and drinking a lovely hot coffee, or at home with your child and enjoying an "iced coffee" instead, have a great day! Happy Monday everyone! ☕✨

"Aim for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars" 🚀🌜 ✨

💬 Out of the mouths of babes 💬 Why not try asking your child one or two of these open-ended questions to support the development of their communication and language skills? Make sure you listen actively, leaving them plenty of time to think and reply in their own way, and gain a beautiful insight into their day 💞 Fast forward 10 years and they may not still be so keen to chat on the school run! 🥹

Our ‘Ritz’ breakfast buffet helps the children to choose and serve their own breakfast independently. Using utensils, jugs and cutlery supports their hand-eye co-ordination and providing options gives the children the choice of how they would like to start their day!

Toddlers travelled around the world on a Yoga Adventure, learning poses inspired by the transport we took, the animals we met and the things we saw. Yoga is great for the children’s balance, co-ordination, strength and mobility, and imitation of familiar objects and animals helps them to engage and visualise the correct positions.
Thank you for joining our Father's Day Stay & Play ✨ We love welcoming families in to nursery to share some play time with us! We had lots of activities on offer, including
🦖 dinosaur playdough
🪲 bug slime
🏗 a construction site,

❤️ HAPPY FATHER'S DAY ❤️
"Walk a little slower Daddy", said a little child so small.
"I'm following in your footsteps and I don't want to fall.
Someday when I'm all grown up you're what I want to be,
Then I will have a little child who'll want to follow me.
And I would want to lead just right and know that I was true,
So walk a little slower daddy, so I can follow you".

The foundation of learning to write is play and exploration ✨ Playing and exploring freely in the early years provides young children with ample opportunity to develop all of the necessary skills to build strong foundations for writing as they approach school age. At nursery we help and support the children to make progress with their skills at their own pace.
