Attention Woking Residents
Dear Resident,
In the exceptional times, Woking Borough Council is sending you important information about Coronavirus. We have a legal duty to keep you ‘warned and informed’.
New Coronavirus restrictions
Coronavirus cases are rapidly rising across the UK and we must all play our part to fight the virus, reduce infections, protect the NHS and save lives.
This is why new restrictions for England have been introduced, which are expected to be in place for four weeks (until 2 December).
From today (Thursday 5 November), you must stay at home. You may leave only for a limited set of reasons.
Read more about the Government restrictions at
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november
Woking Borough Council services update
The new restrictions have required us to close some of our facilities and venues to the public until 2 December, including our Centres for the Community (except for specific health and educational services), tennis courts, outdoor gyms, Pool in the Park, Woking Leisure Centre and Woking Sportsbox
The following facilities will remain open: car parks, parks and green spaces, children’s play areas, multi-use games areas and skate parks.
We continue to work through the restrictions to establish what they mean for council services, and are publishing updated advice for residents and businesses at https://woking.gov.uk/coronavirus. We’ll also keep you updated via these email updates.
See all council service updates at https://www.woking.gov.uk/coronavirus-information/coronavirus-council-service-updates
What’s open and what’s not?
To reduce social contact, the Government has ordered certain businesses and venues to close or restrict how they provide goods and services.
Non-essential shops, leisure and entertainment venues will be closed.
Click and collect services can continue and essential shops, including supermarkets, will remain open.
Pubs, bars, restaurants must close, except for takeaway and delivery services.
Read more about opening restrictions at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november -and-venues
Woking Park mobile testing unit
More than ever, it is critical that you book a Coronavirus test if you’re experiencing symptoms, which are a high temperature, a new continuous cough and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
On scheduled dates in November, an NHS mobile testing unit will be available in Woking Park Car Park for pre-booked appointments only. You will be turned away if you have not booked.
Please only book an appointment if you have COVID-19 symptoms. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/

Grant of £4934.68 from Community Foundation for Surrey was donated to Global Grooves Foundation towards helping 22 families who have been affected severely by Corona Virus pandemic. Some left their beloved ones, elderly who are very vulnerable and those on low income and they have children at home and inadequate resources to feed them and to home school them. Our intention is to draw our people together in this time and give them a feeling of belonging and support. Also our intention is to build resilience by making people feel they are in a community of well-wishers. Global Grooves Foundation is there to build strong Networks on the celebration of culture through music, song and dance. Our Volunteers prepared food boxes, which include personal protective equipment, and art and craft for 42 children. On behalf of Global Grooves Foundation would like to thank Community Foundation for Surrey by providing us with Grant and further help from Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF), Woking News & Mail, KFM Radio Hobby Craft, Costco, Bookers Wholesale.
