To all Woodcote Old Boys and Friends of Woodcote
Some of you may know about this already, but Anthony Merryweather (Director of Music at WHS from 1997-2007) and I have composed/written a Musical called ‘The Truth Stops Here.’ It concerns a little-known tragic episode during World War Two at Bethnal Green Underground Station. The feedback from audiences earlier this year was extremely positive – both in terms of the story’s impact and its relevance to contemporary issues. If the comments we received are to be believed, it is most definitely a story which should be heard.
It is this more than anything that has persuaded us to take it further. We have found an experienced and successful Producer, who is keen to take it forward by giving it an extended run next year at one of London’s fringe theatres – possibly either the Park Theatre in Finsbury or the Southwark Playhouse. Thereafter, the West End!
Now here’s the rub. Anthony and I (with help from an early crowdfunding campaign) have just about managed to fund performances thus far, but clearly what we are now planning is going to need some help from ‘Angels.’ To this end, we would like to offer you the chance to have a financial stake in the Musical’s future by coming to an evening at Woodcote, in our new Hall/Theatre, to hear more of our plans. Joe Prentice, the Producer, will also be there and will explain his vision for the show.
In order to get a flavour of it, you might like to look at this trailer. Some of his contemporaries may well recognize Oliver in a variety of roles! https://youtu.be/oGHQVWc4D1Y
The presentation will start at 6.00pm on Saturday 17th September. We expect it will finish around 8.15pm. If you wanted to come a bit earlier for a nostalgic look round that would, of course, be fine.
Please email me, [email protected], if you would like to come, and do please forward this to any aspiring ‘Angels’ you might know! If you’re unable to come but would be interested in having a financial stake in the show, do let us know and we can explain further.
It’s all rather exciting!
With best wishes
Nick
