Magnum Photographer on visiting the textile and wool industry in and around Bradford:

"To me, there was something innately beautiful, mesmerising, or even hypnotic about the various steps the wool goes through before it becomes clothing materials. The rhythms and choreography of the machinery had its own aesthetic, harking back to the Industrial Revolution.'

Multistory commissioned François Matarasso and Laurence Ismay to produce a series of short films as part of the Open for Business project. Eleven short video…

"Open for Business"

"What I found most striking about this show was the way that it humanized business. A lot of organizations talk about how “people are our greatest assets”, or words to that effect, but this exhibition really gets you to think about people at work, and how people interact with their work and with their workplaces. The exhibition also shows how even the most regularized and controlled manufacturing processes can still include breathtaking moments of visual awe. And, on a technical level, the photographs are stunningly composed and beautifully presented."

Manufacturing around the UK

Interesting blog post charting the diversity of manufacturing across the UK:

"Manufacturing also has an important role to play in employment around the UK, in particular it accounts for over 13% of jobs in Yorkshire and Humber, the West Midlands and the East Midlands. The East Midlands leads the way, with 14.5% of regional employment accounted for by manufacturing."
