This week the children have been creating calendars for Christmas.
Using the sponges and shapes they each dipped them in a colour of their choice and created their own masterpiece. Encouraging language and communication we talked about the different colours we were using and all the different shapes we had, promoting colour and shape recognition.

Mark making contributes to handwriting, creativity and coordination. Initially, children take pleasure from the physical activity of mark-making. But as they develop, they realise that they can control their marks and their creativity starts to thrive. Children love to explore mark making encouraging your child to create different patterns, lines, textures and shapes with pens, pencils or crayons, gives them the opportunity to express themselves and explore new materials.
Happy Friday😀

Emma has been busy delivering defibrillators to our nurseries, but this time Mike has joined her. Banana Moon Day Nursery in Littleover were excited to receive their life-saving AED. The director Kully was there with his team to receive their parcel.

The Little Heart Bright Futures campaign is so important to ensure the safety and security of our nursery's local communities, staff and families. Today one of our baby moons explored the coloured shape sorter.
Introducing single words, and putting more than three words together.
Child’s voice “green” “do it again”

Colour recognition is a key cognitive developmental step for children as it plays an important role in object recognition and is a vital part in helping children to develop their descriptive language skills, which in turn encourages clear communication and understanding.

The most prevalent age for teaching kids shapes is around 2 years old. By the time your child is 2 1/2 or 3 years old, they should be able to identify the majority of basic shapes (e.g., circle, square, triangle, and rectangle).

This afternoon one of our staff members made a vegan home made pizza from scratch.
Here is the ingredients and how to make it.

STEP 1
Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.

STEP 2
Mix together 350g flour, 2 ¾ tsp baking powder and 1 tsp salt in a small bowl, add 1 tbsp oil and 170ml water then stir until it forms a ball. If stiff, add more water, it should be soft but not sticky.

STEP 3
Knead on a floured surface for 3-4 mins. Roll into 2 balls, then flatten out.

STEP 4
Add toppings and bake each on a baking sheet for 15 mins.
We also added tomato purée, sweetcorn, onion
mixed herbs and vegan cheese.

This week our full moons have been looking at differences between themselves and peers this helps the children to understand the differences between people around them.

Our full moons used the mirrors to look at their eye colour, hair colour etc they then used loose parts to make their own faces.

We also encouraged them to identify and discuss their own emotions and others.

Children’s voice: “Happy face” “Chin” “Need blue for my eyes”

The full Moons have taken an interest in Goldilocks and the three bears.

To extend on this interest we made our own porridge. Children identified the big, medium and small bowls and spoons and which character used which.

The children investigated how the oats changed as you added water or flour and described the textures they could feel.

Children’s voice: “My porridge is sticky” “I need more water” “Bears porridge”

Thank you to everyone who got involved making a pudsey top at home for our competition.

Here are some of the T-shirts. We will be announcing the winner on Monday…

As today is children in need the full moons have been creating spotty paintings!

We mixed paint and water together then used syringes to suck up the water and splatter it on our paper.

Children developed their fine motor skills as they pushed and pulled the plunger on the syringe. They also identified colours and mixed some together to make different colours such as purple.

Children’s voice: “it’s spotty” “pudsey on my top”

This morning Pre-School took part in a baking lesson. As it’s children in need this Friday they made some pudsey bear biscuits.
The children each took turns to mix in the ingredients and scoop out the mixture onto their biscuit.

There are many benefits to getting children involved in baking from a young age. Kids learn best by doing, giving them an opportunity to use their hands instead of watching from afar is the ideal way to gain the experience that fosters a feeling of accomplishment and builds confidence.
