Our Year 5 & 6 choir had a wonderful time at Dulverton Primary School this week preparing for next week’s Young Voices concert. They practised singing as part of a large choir and had the chance the share why they love singing so much with some new friendly faces.
Thank you so much to Dulverton and Mrs Chanchai for looking after us and being so welcoming. We can’t wait to sing at the O2 next week!

On Thursday, Year 6 took part in a World War II workshop to introduce our new topic this term 'Britain at War'.
To say the children had a fantastic day is an understatement! They were visited by an 'ARP Warden' who took the children back to WWII Britain where they learned all about:
What the job and responsibilities of an air-raid warden was;
Genuine artefacts from the war and what they were used for;
First aid during the war and how to carry this out;
How to safely put out and remove a bomb;
The timeline leading to the start of WWII and how it ended.
Our thanks go to our wonderful parents for their help in dressing the children up! It made the day truly immersive.

On Tuesday, the Year 5 classes had a wonderful opportunity to participate in an Ancient Greek workshop! There was a demonstration from a Greek warrior and then the differences between the city states of Athens and Sparta were explored.
The children took a lesson in democracy, which was followed by democratic votes. The great battle of Gaugamela between Alexander the Great and King Darius rounded off an engaging and fun day.

The School Council and I are unbelievably overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness of those who donated food or toiletries towards our vulnerable family hampers. In total, we were able to create 8 large trays! We would like to take this opportunity again to say THANK YOU as without your kindness, none of this would have been possible! – Miss Taylor and The School Council

Year 6 have had a lovely morning using their knowledge of whole foods to make 3 healthy pasta sauces: roasted red pepper, fresh tomato and pesto. They enjoyed developing their skills of chopping, grating, mixing and blending and tested their sauces with pitta bread and cucumber sticks. They were delicious!

What an amazing end to our very first term in Reception! The children have been busy settling in, making new friends, and getting to know each other. We've already had some exciting adventures, including a visit to Welling Library 📚 and a fun, hands-on Diwali workshop. The little ones have also been fantastic at learning their new routines and embracing all the new things that come with starting school. It’s been a wonderful journey so far, and we can’t wait for the next term of learning, laughter, and more adventures! 🌟

We had an exciting Collective Worship this morning, celebrating 20 years of Bishop Ridley C of E Primary School. The children learned all about the history of the school, as well as our namesake, Bishop Nicholas Ridley, and some even got to interview Mrs Torrance and Mr Martindale to find out their memories of the opening of the school! To mark the anniversary, Miss Cory also presented a commemorative banner, which will be proudly displayed in the school hall. We would like to thank her for her hard work and creativity with this important project. Finally, we would like to thank you and your children for creating some beautiful pieces of art to celebrate our the occasion and we hope you enjoyed looking at these during our Parents' Evenings earlier in the week. Here's to the next 20 years!

To celebrate Black History Month, Year 6 have learnt about the Windrush generation and have enjoyed celebrating one of its pioneers, the actress Carmen Munroe. They re-created a piece of art that depicts the departure of the HMS Empire Windrush from the Caribbean in 1948 using water colours and black sugar paper to create 3D depth.

In Year 3, for Black History Month the children have been learning about Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Basquiat was known for using a crown motif, which was his way of celebrating Black people as majestic royalty or deeming them as saints. Describing the crown itself in further detail, artist Francesco Clemente posited: "Jean-Michel’s crown has three peaks, for his three royal lineages: the poet, the musician, the great boxing champion. Therefore, the children were challenged with drawing their self-portrait with a crown and bright colours inspired by Basquiat.
