The Patch Day nursery raises lots of money each year for a variety of charities and community groups.
This term we are going to be raising money to purchase some large outdoor equipment of our children. To begin our fundraising we are having a sponsored bounce on 29th June where our children and families will take part we are also looking for local companies/employers to help us too by either donating a raffle prize or donating towards a piece of equipment.

Today we had a lovely surprise as one of our parents (Theodores mom )employers KTC situated in Moorcroft Street in wednesbury sent us a cheque for ยฃ200.

A huge thank you to KTC for your kindness and generosity.

Candles and lit pumpkins create a fantastic spooky atmosphere but can be dangerous. So, keep them well out of the path of trick or treaters and away from any Halloween decorations that might catch light. And, in all the excitement, donโ€™t forget to put them out when youโ€™re done.

You could even use LED candles, glow sticks or torches to light up your pumpkins instead. Just make sure any button battery compartments are secure to prevent children from gaining access.

Weโ€™d love to see your pumpkin creations. Please share them with us in the comments below.

Please note its our policy not to post regular photographs or videos of the children when in our care.

Staff had a little treat this morning to start off World Mental Health Day ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก

It's World Mental Health Day today so you're probably going to see lots in the media about it, lots of discussion, lots of people sharing their stories, and lots of 'hype'. Some of that will be helpful for you and some, well if I'm honest maybe a little triggering for you.
So often on these days, we're left with a feeling of 'yes, I know it matters, but what am I supposed to do' or, 'I know someone close to me is struggling, but I'm just not sure how to best help'.
So I'm dropping into your feed with 5 hopefully helpful and practical suggestions for you to use today to inspire action.
โ˜๏ธ Take some time to reflect, to think about where you're at and what support you may need and then ask for help! โ˜๏ธ

๐Ÿ› Do something nice for you, a walk, a bath, call a friend - these small things can be incredibly powerful for our mood.๐Ÿ›

๐ŸŽง Listen to an inspiring podcast, there are loads out there (including mine!) - pick one that's going to leave you with new knowledge and strategies.๐ŸŽง

๐Ÿ“š Invest in learning about what actually contributes to good mental health, my book is a good place to start and you can check it out here.๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿฅฐ Just be kind to yourself, when we're kind to ourselves, everything is just a little easier.

The link in my bio is packed full of useful resources to get you inspired. โค๏ธ

Today we introduced Berty and Betty to our hedgehogs..MyHappymind. we can't wait to start our Happy breathing tomorrow..great start on world mental health day and early years wellbeing week.

Wondering how to talk to your child about the news? Weโ€™ve got you covered.

Such a sad day. ๐Ÿ’”

Absolutely โค๏ธ

We do not need to decide when our kids โ€œneedโ€ to learn to count and write.

If they see us modeling counting and writing authentically, they will be interested in it and pursue it when their brains are ready to figure it out.

Count things when things need to be counted! Count them out loud in front of your child without quizzing them or drilling them.

Iโ€™d argue that you donโ€™t even need to correct them when they try to copy you and get it wrong. (My kid is still in that cute stage where she canโ€™t *stop* counting, so if she counts any group of anything, she โ€œcountsโ€ it to ten. Holds up two toys, โ€œLook Mom! Oneโ€ฆtwoโ€ฆthree, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten!โ€) (And my other kid happily counted six fingers on his hand the other day because he got confused and counted one twice.)

Kids learn everything through playing. When they play โ€œrestaurantโ€ and they serve you something nonsensical, or they tell you that the food costs one thousand dollars, you donโ€™t tell them โ€œSorry buddy, thatโ€™s not a normal amount to charge. Study up on your menu pricing before we play this game again,โ€ because itโ€™s obvious to an adult that itโ€™s a game and that theyโ€™re still learning concepts like โ€œhow much do things costโ€ and โ€œhow does paying for things workโ€. Itโ€™s the same with early writing and early math, too. It just feels like they โ€œshouldโ€ be more able to get those things right, so adults get wrapped up in correcting them in order to teach them to do it the โ€œrightโ€ way.

Just let them play. Just let them play! And let them hear and see you counting and writing and spelling too!

[Image description: The background image is of a bin filled with ocean-themed toys. The image is very faded out. Over top of it is a quote which reads, โ€œSlow down. I promise your child will learn how to write their name and count to ten when THEY are ready. Instead we SHOULD work on resilience, independence, perseverance, and happiness! All of which are nurtured through PLAY!โ€ The image was made by Sally Wright and The Ark Groups, whose watermark is in the bottom right corner. End description.]

More wonderful presents today..our families have been so generous and kind. ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's that time of year again when children are getting ready to start school or perhaps preschool or nursery for the first time.

You are not alone if you and/or your child are feeling a bit anxious about this - it's called separation anxiety and it's totally normal, but this doesn't stop it being really sad and quite frightening for some, whilst at the same time being a hugely exciting new adventure.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, or would just like to hear the experiences of some other parents, or if you're looking for some coping strategies then have a read of this week's blog.

Some of our wonderful gifts from some of our children and families who are leaving us to go to school. Thank you its been a real pleasure being part of your learning journey ๐Ÿ˜Š

The Patch nursery is now full and we have a substantial waiting list. So we will be closing our waiting list now until Jan 2023 as we feel its unfair to just keep children and families waiting.
If you have already applied for a place we will keep you the list and be in contact if a place becomes available. If you would like to go on our waiting list we will re open the list in Jan 2023 so please contact us then.

Thank you for your continued support.

Exciting times as always here at The Patch.. decorating nearly finished we can't wait to set up our new areas in our badgers and hedgehogs room.
