Following an influx of new toys at Christmas, January is the perfect opportunity to clear out your childβs toys and make sure nothing dangerous is lurking there.
Key things to look out for include:
β’ Any broken toys. Breakages may have created sharp edges that can injure your child, small parts that can choke them or easy access to dangerous internal elements.
β’ Super-strong magnets that can rip through your childβs belly
β’ Easy-access button batteries that can kill your child if swallowed
β’ Age-appropriate toys. Long cords can strangle small children and small parts can choke them
β’ Dangerous electrical components (including chargers) that can catch fire or cause electric shocks

Did you know playing rhyming games with children can be beneficial play time that aids learning? And the great thing is, you can play rhyming games wherever you are!

If your child swallows a button battery, the damage can be life-altering or even fatal. So, itβs important you know where they are in your home. And, January is the perfect time to start your search.
Since Christmas youβve likely had lots of new products and toys come into the house which button batteries may power. Perhaps some presents even came with spare batteries that are now loose and need a safe home?
Remember:
β’ Check that battery compartments in toys are secure
β’ Keep household products with easy to access batteries out of reach of children
β’ Watch out for loose spare batteries in open packets or sent with new products
β’ Keep flat batteries out of reach and recycle them as soon as you can
Then, why not make it your New Year Resolution to continue to by always storing them safely and checking any new products that come into your home.
Download our free button battery poster to help your search: http://ow.ly/mFbQ50Mjk1s
And donβt forget to encourage your friends and family to check their homes too.
