The children have enjoyed experimenting with different materials and liquids. The children observed the changes made in the liquid as they added food colouring into it.

By allowing children to enjoy different activities experimenting in different textures and materials it helps to introduce new ideas and allow the children to build ownership of the new ideas and use it to scaffold their learning and development.

The older children have been learning how to use tweezers and working towards their counting and taking away. They have developed to use the tweezers to help them towards their fine motor skills. By helping the children to count this will learn them the meaning of numbers and how to match them correctly. This also allows the children to be prepared for when they attend school.

Maths is important and it's important to help young children develop their mathematical thinking. A child's math knowledge helps towards different parts of children's everyday lives.

The children at TipTop have many different play opportunities outside to develop their gross motor skills. This week the children have been developing their gross motor skills by using the push along bikes and pedal bikes in the garden area. They have other opportunities such as different climbing equipment like stepping stones, balancing beams and slides for the to learn and explore.
Gross motor skills refer to a child's ability to use the larger muscles (like those in their arms, legs, and torso) to move their body as a whole. The children have to develop both strength and coordination of these muscles in order to engage in gross motor movements such as jumping and climbing.

The babies have enjoyed playing in a small world tuff tray with different toys and textures inside for them to explore. They used their sensory exploration such as their hands and feet to explore the textures and use the toys to build their own role play.

By providing small world play it forms imaginative play in which children use props or toys to support this. It also encourages children to use these small props and their imaginations to create detailed and playful worlds.

The preschool children have been practising writing their own names. We have been using different techniques such as using letter sticks and copying letters of their name.

By allowing the children to practice writing their name and recognising their letters in their own name, gives the children a sense of achievement and sets them on the right path to reading and writing success. This is also a part of us getting children ready for school.

With the theme of people who help us last week. The babies explored the texture of rice. the rice was made to look like an x-ray. This allowed the babies to explore the textures of the rice using their hands and feet.

Playing with rice is an excellent way to help to develop baby's senses, hand eye coordination, improving language and communication skills and developing fine and gross motor skills.

Using the spray bottles develops their fine motor skills too.

To continue with the police theme the other week. The children decided to made their own police hats using different mark making materials. This helps to encourage the children with their imaginative role play as they used the bikes with their hats to pretend they was police officers.

Role play is an important part of children's development as it builds their confidence, creativity communication, physical development and problem solving.

The other week we had a police visit from two police officers. The children tried on some of their uniform such as there vests, hats and helmets. They spoke to the children about road safety and what type of equipment they use. The children was also able to go into the police van!

Events like these provide opportunities for children to learn and explore and be able too build strong relationships in the community. The children loved this experience meeting the police officers and we thank them for their hard work.

Here at TipTop we provide more opportunities like these where children can learn and explore more about people in our community such as police, firemen, doctors, vets and many more.
