We have a woman-only space where women can meet and seek help within our Market Street offices. We support International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia to raise awareness of the violence which LGBTQ+ people face. Whilst this day is celebrated in 137 countries, many governments around the world still allow conversion therapy, and some punish homosexuality with death. We support everyone’s freedom to love, to live, and to express their identity without fear of discrimination.

Watford Women's Centre was established in 1989 by a group of exceptional women who came together to volunteer their time and support to victims of sexual violence and r**e. Over the past 30 years the charity has developed a needs-led service, shaped by what women tell us makes a real and lasting difference in their lives. We recognise that the challenges women face can often be complex and overwhelming, and we strive to reduce gender inequality, build trusting relationships and empower women to become independent, productive and healthy.

General information

What we do: Watford Women’s Centre Plus welcomes any woman wanting to move onwards and upwards out of crisis or to a new phase of life and to realise her dreams. We offer non-judgemental support and up to date information so women can make choices and acquire skills, for achieving in a modern world. We also support their sons, husbands and brothers in their search for training, education and work opportunities How we help: We aim to provide a friendly, welcoming space to encourage any woman to access our services. To enable people to make informed choices and take control over their lives we also provide support and accurate up-to-date information and a range of low cost accredited courses and workshops. Basic Maths and English courses help people gain the skills they need to enter the workplace or improve their everyday abilities and functioning. Basic IT courses are aimed at those who have never used a computer before or who have very limited IT skills. A range of activity groups and workshops offer a broad range of subjects including arts & crafts, yoga, mindfulness and personal development. We also have a course directed at helping students improve their self-esteem and confidence and another on Domestic Abuse Awareness. The Women's Centre supports women with domestic abuse issues using both one to one and group support sessions. We also offer free appointments to see a solicitor regarding family law at our weekly Advice Sessions. And finally, we offer low cost one-to-one counselling, for both short and long-term clients.
