A school in Smethwick has teamed up with a local coffee shop to hold a recruitment event for prospective teachers for primary schools opening from September 2018.

The Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust which already sponsors Shireland Collegiate Academy will be opening a family of primary schools from 2018 onwards in Darlaston, Sandwell, Willenhall and Coseley.

Matt Wynne, part of the strategic team at Shireland CAT, had the idea to contact Costa Coffee in Bearwood to invite teachers in to learn about the new schools, "Teachers love coffee, it gives us our special powers and what better place to get to know prospective colleagues than a coffee shop. The team at Costa Bearwood have been fantastic and really accommodating."

Primary teachers can drop into Costa Coffee on Bearwood Road on the 26th June between 4 and 6pm where they'll be greeted by the Shireland CAT team and a free coffee (as long as they show proof of teaching or trainee teacher status).

The principal designate of Shireland Technology Primary, Kirsty Tonks, said of the new schools, "Our vision is to enable pupils to achieve beyond their expectation by providing the best technology-enabled education opportunities."

She added, "There's no obligation on the 26th of June, just a coffee and a chat; an opportunity to speak to people about our fantastic new schools."

Shireland Collegiate Academy is a large inner-city secondary school in Smethwick, Sandwell in the West Midlands. Over the past few years, the Academy has gained a reputation for effective use of technology to improve standards, innovative curriculum design and embedding new approaches to learning. The Academy has been judged as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2006, 2010 and 2013.
