Atlatl, Woodlands Adventure

NEW Autumn 2022! - We are looking forward to running our first Atlatl session very soon here at Woodlands! Check out the video of our staff taking part and demonstrating how it's done.

Woodlands is proud to introduce the Atlatl (pronounced atal atal) as a new target activity. Atlatl’s are spear throwers that bridge the gap in human development between the spear and the bow and can be traced back at least 17,000 years to the Upper Palaeolithic period.

This activity can be delivered by itself or incorporated into an archery/tomahawk session or even a bush craft day where participants can make their own from naturally found materials before being taught how to use it to great effect.

NEW Autumn 2022!

Imagine the scene circa 20,000 years ago. You look out across the open land and see a herd of woolly mammoths. It’s nearly dinner time and the tribe are hungry. How can you take on the giant mammoth and bring home the food to feed your growing population?

Woodlands is proud to introduce the Atlatl (pronounced atal atal) as a new target activity. Atlatl’s are spear throwers that bridge the gap in human development between the spear and the bow and can be traced back at least 17,000 years to the Upper Palaeolithic period. This activity can be delivered by itself or incorporated into an archery/tomahawk session or even a bush craft day where participants can make their own from naturally found materials before being taught how to use it to great effect.

• Please ensure that your groups have access to, bring and use, both water bottles and sun cream with a high spf.
• T-shirts or tops that cover the shoulders as well as decent length shorts (ideally to just above the knee) are perfect for the activities with trainers being ideal foot wear. Sandals, Crocs, Sliders etc. will not be allowed on activity for safety reasons.
• Where possible we will try and keep users in the shade and take regular breaks but we also reserve the right to either cancel or change an activity due to potential health and safety implications. This will be at the discretion of the Centre Manager and/or Senior Instructing staff.
