On Holocaust Memorial Day, this is a photo from Dachau that we visited last summer.
I'd always felt the need to visit at least one Concentration Camp site as a Historian but also as a parent so the next generation understand that we should take lessons from the past & endeavour not to do those things again.
Happy New Year to all. May it be a happy & healthy one.
Wishing you all a Happy & Healthy Christmas & New Year. Stay safe, see you on the other side. 🎄🎄🎄
Couldn't resist this for our Christmas log this year 😆
Don't forget last posting dates if you wish to buy a voucher for some history research for Christmas.🎄🎄
Watching the Repair Shop on bbc1 tonight and they had a vintage hoover just like the one my parents had when I was a kid..it brought back so many memories. ☺️
History isn't just about names, dates, royalty and politics but social history, what people did.and what they used in everyday life are just as important to remember.
I’ve not done Family History Friday for a while. So a little family story here.. when I began asking my aunt about her dad and his siblings she said she ever really knew them. In fact she and my uncle would go with their dad to visit ‘uncle Charlie’ who worked in a wood yard but she didn’t realise for years that he was actually her uncle and it wasn’t a polite title. No wonder no one in the family knew that her grandad was from Germany not Alsace like they were told.. not even my Gran knew her father in law was German. 🫣
It’s only a few weeks until Christmas, don’t forget I sell vouchers so if you are really stuck on what to buy a loved one why don’t you get them a voucher for some family history research. Then they can resolve all those questions they’ve had over the years about where their family are from..just like my family and our German ancestor. I have a variety of fixed rate packages to suit all budgets, please look at my website for further information

The ruins of Hadrians Wall date back to the time Hadrian built the wall but then fell into ruin dew to being negleckted and not maintained enuff becos of cooncil cutbacks awthorized by Roburt the Brooce in modern times no effort has bean embarked upon or even meaowed upon so they have remained intack as ruins down to this day
I was listening to Janet Jackson being interviewed in the radio the other day and had my mind blown.. Samuel L Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Tracy Chapman are all her cousins 😮😮😮 I would so love to look at her family tree 😄😄. Do you feel like the odd one out in that family if you’re not insanely talented 🤔🤔.
In other genealogy musings WDYTYA 2024 begins tomorrow night hurrah 🎉 Paddy McGuinness is first up.
As a Historian I've always believed that history should be studied, to understand what happened in the past both good & bad to ensure that the same things don't happen again. The Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial is one of those places that shows the brutality of the past in the hope our children do not make the same decisions of their ancestors.
When your husband can be as much of a history geek - popped into Nuremburg on the way to Prague.
Remembering our family holiday to the Highlands of Scotland a couple of years ago and the desolate emptiness of the countryside with the ruins of crofts and larger houses from the clearances dotted over the landscape. Hauntingly beautiful.
Haven't had one of these for a while but how about this for an unusual forename Artissadella for a little girl. Ive checked the original document and it definitely looks like this is how its spelt.
New Blog Post Available on my website "Genealogical Gold Dust".
