On Wednesday afternoon we welcomed Year 7 grandparents to Adams.
The afternoon began in Big School Library with a short address from Mr Hickey. Then Year 7 pupils gave their grandparents a tour of Adams before enjoying tea and cake while viewing the stunning art work on display in the annual Art Exhibition.
We had some wonderful feedback from our visitors who really appreciated the opportunity to look around the school they have heard so much about from their grandchildren.

On 26th June, the Quibell Society invited Simon Bell, local author and former mental health nurse, to speak on the Holocaust and its impact.
The talk was immensely thought provoking - one of the highlights was the use of a spool of string to demonstrate the sheer number of deaths caused by the Holocaust. Each centimetre resembled 1,000 deaths and the string made 3 lengths of H1 classroom before reaching the 6,000,000 deaths brought about by the Holocaust.
Simon Bell, used his NHS experience to good effect in order to explain the mental impact of the Holocaust and how many survivors were misdiagnosed with mental illnesses from the trauma and how the legacy of the Holocaust and genocide still impacts lives today.
Simon Bell kindly gifted BSL a copy of his book 'Remembering the Holocaust and the Impact on Society Today', which looks at the role of countries who collaborated with the N**i regime to exterminate Jews, and the subsequent impact on modern society.

The Haberdashers’ Adams chess team delivered an outstanding performance in this year’s Junior ECF Team Chess Challenge, finishing second in the national finals held at Nottingham University's Kings Meadow Campus on June 24th.
The competition is open to teams of four players drawn from Years 7 and 8. Adams earned their place in the finals, having come through one of 17 regional heats earlier in the year. Although we narrowly missed out to Westminster school, the team, consisting of: Muhammed Q, Malcom F, Ruya K, and Karthikeya C, produced some excellent chess. The team’s impressive result was bolstered by exceptional individual efforts:
Muhammed Q notched 4/5, only suffering a narrow defeat against a titled Candidate Master. Malcolm F also scored 4/5, remaining undefeated throughout the day with clinical precision.
In other chess news, last Friday saw Adams host and win the inaugural Shropshire Secondary School Chess Championships. The nine person squad featured four Year 7 students, which bodes well for the future. It was really good to have Sam H, our board one, return after finishing his GCSE exams, to take part and lead the team to victory.

On Tuesday, all of our Lower Sixth Biology A-level students headed to Longford for an exciting hands-on Ecology Day. They put their fieldwork skills to the test with two practical investigations:
🔍 First, they compared the size of nettles growing in sunny versus shaded areas.
🌱 Then, they explored plant biodiversity by examining mowed and uncut grassland.
To wrap up the day, students applied their mathematical skills through statistical analysis of the data they collected — a perfect blend of science and numbers in action on a beautiful sunny day!

Seeking ON volunteers who have left Adams in the last 5 years.
The ON Forum is designed to give Lower Sixth pupils the opportunity to speak to Old Novaportans who have recently left Adams and are either a university student, a recent graduate, an apprentice or an employee. You don’t need to prepare anything in advance and will simply speak with pupils who are interested in your course, subject, employer or career path. It is normally a very relaxed and sociable occasion and a good opportunity to catch up with your year group and with staff members who love to hear how you are getting on.
