BEACH FUN!!

I had a blast at our first trip to the Talking Tots beach this summer.

The big yellow ball had some competition from the mini beach balls, we went fishing for sea creatures, made kites, had a neon beach disco and no one got sunburnt! Best Beach Day EVER!!!!

AND we're doing it all again - Friday 23rd August 10am Monkey Puzzle Maldon.

Langford and Ulting Village Hall is the perfect venue for our Summer Coffee Morning...the beautiful hall will provide shade or shelter from the rain (if required 🫣) and the large grassy area is perfect for setting up your picnic blankets if the sun shining ☀️

Soooo I've been a little quiet lately - and not just because its the summer holidays and my children are home.... I've been working on a very exciting project.

Im calling it Talking Tots My Version (it's Taylor Swift month so sorry but not sorry for all the Swifty references that may appear).

Yes and No.

Repetition is key to children’s learning and repetition is not just doing the same thing twice.
In their early years, children don’t find repetition boring because each time they do something they are experiencing it in a new way. So we mix it up but keep things the same.

Some features of class are the same each week – we sing our welcome song and play with the yellow ball at the start of each class, and we sing our goodbye song at the end of each class – building routines that will encourage participation and build confidence. We also celebrate our achievements with stickers! Who doesn’t love a sticker!

Each class follows a set structure including our Go game, Learning game, Active Game, Action song, Makaton signing and Story time but how we fill each ‘slot’ changes weekly, maintaining familiarity whilst maximising engagement and fun.

Each term also follows a set curriculum and has it’s own learning goals for each age group – creating a complete year long programme designed to complement children’s natural development stages.

Classes may have only just finished for the year but September prepping starts now!

First up – kit checking.

Each and every half term we check over each and every prop, flashcard, toy, mat, book etc (and yes there are thousands of them!!) to ensure everything is clean and safe and not damaged in anyway.

To all the lovely families and staff at Bright Horizons Families UK thank you so much for another great year!

I’m gutted to say even though we were asked to return to you in September I have today been told that now we will not be returning. I am so sorry that I haven’t had the chance to say goodbye to you all properly but please know that I have loved working with all the children over the last 4 years and am so so proud of them all. Thank you also to all the lovely staff that have supported us and joined in and danced / sang / dressed up and everything in between with us. We have loved every minute of working with you.

My number 1 tip to promote speech and language development??
Create more opportunities for communication.

Talk to your child as you go through your daily routines. Life is made of so many patterns and routines, things we do every day, even multiple times a day and each one can become a fantastic opportunity for your baby / toddler to learn vital language skills.

👍Talk about what you’re are doing and what your child is doing – narrate your activities
👍Repeat words multiple times
👍Use gestures to help convey meaning
👍Label objects they can see
👍Offer choices – this or that
👍Play / talk face to face

Incorporating speech development techniques as these into bath time, meal times, walks, getting dressed etc – into any interaction with your child can not only encourage but strengthen language and communication development.
