Community Experience 2023/2024 - we need your help to make this happen! Building on the success we had last year, we would like to continue to explore creative ways for our pupils to engage in Community Experience opportunities.
We would love you to be involved in any way you feel able to. Are you able to provide a video demonstrating what your job role entails and then set a challenge for our pupils to complete? Are you able to invite pupils into your place of work (this would be fully supported by school staff)? Are you able to come to school to provide a workshop? Do you know anyone who would be able to?

We were delighted to host our recent Sibling Day and meet so many of our pupils' siblings. Our visiting siblings remarked on how much they enjoyed seeing their brothers, sisters, half-brothers, half-sisters, step-brothers and step-sisters in school. One brother learnt some Makaton songs to share with his family at home and one sister said that: "It is such a lovely school and I'm considering getting a job here when I'm older!"

We are happy to be supporting the I Am Festival 2023 which is a yearly celebration, empowering children and young people with additional needs to explore their creativity. Over the past five years, the festival has provided a platform for hundreds of young people to showcase their talents, leadership, ideas and opinions and we are delighted to have been involved year after year. We are delighted to be introducing our next Family Project 2023. This will run for nine weeks, every Thursday, between 10am and 12pm at Riverside SPC. The first session will be on Thursday 11th May.
This Expressive Arts Family Project will be an opportunity to meet other Riverside families from across our four sites in a relaxed environment.
Through the medium of music, movement and story telling we will
co-produce a stunning piece to perform at the end of the summer term (13th July).
We would love to welcome as many Riverside families as possible and please remember that no prior experience is needed. Everyone is truly valued for who they are and what they bring.
Following the success of past Family Project Events; this is what some families have said:
“Amazing atmosphere, feel welcomed, feels like a family…my happy place being part of the Riverside world.”
“It’s a safe place where we can be ourselves, without judgement. You feel the love and support around you.”

Riverside Parents, Staff and Friends Association (RPSFA) is a registered Charity which organises events both for fundraising and to provide opportunities for families to meet and socialise. For example, the PSFA organise events like the Christmas and Summer Fair to raise additional funds which can further enrich our pupils learning experiences. These events also provide valuable opportunities for families to meet each other.
We would like to invite you, or members of your family and friends, to join the PSFA and be as involved as you are able to. We plan to host one meeting per term (over Zoom) and we would love to see you there.
Please do join us; make some new friends alongside helping to support our Riverside community.

Thank you to everyone who attended one of this week's Movie Nights, which was a tremendous success.
Family Movie Night Success It was fantastic to see so many families attend this relaxed experience and meet other families and their child's friends. Everyone had a great time and there were even some play dates arranged. We will let the feedback below say it all:

We were extremely proud of our pupils who represented Riverside school at the Jack Petchey Award show on Monday night at the Churchill Theatre.
Three of our pupils were celebrated for their individual personal achievements and collected their award plaque from the Mayor of Bromley. Some of our other pupils put their hearts and souls into a dance routine, infecting the audience with their contagious smiles and energy. One member of the audience exclaimed that it was the best thing she had seen all night! Well done everyone.

Nursery and primary-aged pupils across all four sites enjoyed a festive and magical multi-sensory journey to search for the missing stars in this year's immersive Christmas experience. On their way, they met a fairy, nutcracker, helpful elf, reindeer and St Nicholas himself and children and families shared personalised experiences through music, dance, drama and story telling. On our journey, we learnt that our (your) children really are the brightest stars and that light shines bright in us all. We were very lucky to have a beautiful new library area donated by Acorn Book Club. We had the grand opening in November. The pupils have loved exploring and reading the books donated in such a beautiful space. Thank you Acorn Book Club. Magpie Dance Company Visit All pupils had the opportunity to watch an amazing performance and then be involved in a creative workshop were they collaboratively put together a dance routine. It was a great afternoon full of creativity and inspiration. Thank you Magpie Dance Company.

We have had some lovely feedback following our Riverside connect event at SPC this week: "I went to the Riverside Connect sensory support session at SPC today. It was great, really informative and Emily made us very welcome. There were only a couple of parents there. It would be great to see more people at the next one, please come along if you're free. I'm looking forward to the conference next week. Thank you Riverside for all you do to support families"
