What a busy but truly wonderful 2 days, helping 60 7yr olds make Christmas wreathes. Can't wait to see the photos!

Just over a week to go with making Christmas wreaths with 60 7yr olds. Last year I found they struggled to thread pine cones - but they all wanted them on their wreaths. This year, my family are helping me thread about 400 pine cones in advance. And the willow is finally in to soak, given that I had a week more to prepare than I originally thought.

In a couple of weeks I will be delivering a Christmas wreath workshop with the lovely Y3 children at a primary school in North Lincolnshire. I'm very excited. So today was spent soaking willow and hunting for pine cones. What a fantastic excuse for a day out in the woods with the dog and the family. :-)

Preparing for tomorrow's natural cordage workshop. I'm so excited to be hitting the woods and meeting new people. :-D

Natural Cordage 14/06/2019

I can't wait to lead this session. It's going to be Brill. We will have cover to sit under, so if you're free on Sunday, book on and enjoy a day in the woods making stuff out of nettles and brambles. :-)

The folklore of nettles 03/06/2019

While I'm waiting tentatively hoping I can catch the nettles for my upcoming cordage workshop before they turn to wood and pulp, here is an article about why nettles are awesome.

The folklore of nettles As we've been discussing the folklore of wild flowers and herbs, I thought I'd add this relevant post from the archives to finish off the week.... In the fairy tale of "The Wild Swans" by Hans Christian Andersen, the heroine's...

‘It’s time for schools to embrace outdoor learning’ 02/06/2019

Get children outside and watch them flourish. They can do that even in tiny spaces and the curriculum can be embedded into their outdoor experience. There's a link to research in the article. By the way: the principles apply to adults as well, particularly those with mental ill health and issues of esteem.

‘It’s time for schools to embrace outdoor learning’ Outdoor learning: Getting outdoors can transform children from how they are in the classroom, says this primary teacher

Dear friends, please share my page. I'm ready to get people engaging with nature, having fun and hopefully learning a little along the way. What can you do outside? Ask me, and I'll come along with my box of tricks and show you how even the smallest, bleakest patch of grass can be a space of inspiration for adults and children. Still looking for a logo, so shout if you can help. :-)

I'm proud to be a workshop leader for this fantastic project. I couldn't do my job without the wonderful volunteers on the sessions, who keep me right and are extra eyes and ears. Why not join the project as a volunteer, or book onto one of their workshops? It's all about promoting wellbeing through nature.
