Petition: Require disabled toilets have changing stations large enough for children/adults 30/04/2023

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/636504
I've been asked to share this very important petition. I know from teaching young people who are taller than me that finding places for personal care is really difficult. At the minute we have a charity called Changing Places which fund and build larger toilet/changing facilities. I don't think it should be up to a charity to do this. It obviously can't be done in many buildings but it's worth pushing for new builds to be built to this spec methinks. Thanks Sophie Douglas-Brown for sharing.

Petition: Require disabled toilets have changing stations large enough for children/adults I want the Government to require all disabled toilets have a full-sized changing bed/table/trolley, that is large enough for children or adults, and not just babies.

New 'passport' helps disabled people get better service 12/05/2022

Great idea. I have a similar one for my fibromyalgia. They're a subtle way of getting the help you need. I hope this works for people with SEN.

New 'passport' helps disabled people get better service The Piws scheme will help businesses recognise how they can support people with special needs.

This is a fabulous idea

Have you heard of the ‘Trinity Protocol’?

The ‘Trinity Protocol’ is an opportunity for parents and carers to register the details of those with additional needs, such as autism, global developmental delay (GDD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or other learning difficulties, on our systems. People can also register themselves, if they have additional learning needs.
It allows officers to be aware of an individual and help them to adapt their response to support the person should come into contact with them – if they go missing or need to defuse a threatening situation peacefully for example.

The protocol is a risk reduction tool and named after Caerphilly’s Trinity Fields Additional Needs School, where Gwent Police introduced the UK’s first police cadets scheme in an additional needs setting.

How do I register?
The simple form 📄 contains vital information about the person that can be added to our police systems, preferably with a recent photograph 📸.

This allows officers to have the important information available to them that could save precious time and enable them to help reassure the person if they need assistance.

The person does not have to have come into contact with the police previously to complete a form, so please contact us via email 📧: [email protected] to request a form.

If you are part of a Neighbourhood Watch, community group or support service and would like to find out more about the ‘Trinity Protocol’ please get in touch at [email protected].

About Us 10/05/2022

These look amazing, subtle unlike fidget toys. Suited to the adult market too. Has anybody used them?

About Us Hi! I’m Michael Malkin, the inventor of Calm Strips! As someone who has dealt with social anxiety and situational anxiety for as long as I can remember, I’ve found that what helped me to kind of calm down or to ground myself in that moment is touch. At my former job, on days when we got busy, I ...

Well I haven't posted on here as I haven't tutored for a very long time. However, there has been a huge flurry of people looking at the page. I'm interested in how I can help those of you who have looked on here. What can I do for you? Advice? Direction pointing? Let me know and I'll do my best to help you.

This is wonderful. Haircuts can be traumatic for people with SEN. not just children either. Just the word cut can be terrifying. We need more like this lady ❤️

Understanding Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) - Autism Learns 23/06/2021

I can't recommend this course enough. I personally find PDA much more challenging than ASD as do many of my colleagues. If you can do this course, do. X

Understanding Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) - Autism Learns Our next online learning series will explore Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) – a profile on the autism spectrum characterised by an extreme avoidance of everyday demands and expectations. Those with a PDA profile can appear to have better social skills than other autistic people, and often use...

Parents ‘not aware’ of private tutor risk 25/02/2021

I've only been asked ONCE in all my years of tutoring for copies of my DBS check and qualifications. I have them in a portfolio and always say straight away that parents can see them any time they like or have copies. So many teachers are flooding into the tutor market and our SEN students are much more vulnerable than most for lots of reasons. Please ask for proof that any tutor you use is A:qualified in the relevant field and B:has a current DBS check and C:has not had a Misconduct Hearing. The latter are made public on the Government website. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/teacher-misconduct

Parents ‘not aware’ of private tutor risk There has been an increase in private tuition during the pandemic but concerns remain about the checks in place.

Can I ask what software you homeschoolers are using please for your online lessons? Do you use Google Classrooms, Jamboard or any of the others available out there?

Warm and fuzzy! I love how the mum compared the judgement of her son to that of a pit bull. Insightful. My 2 labradors used to come into my SEN school and work with the students. There is this natural bond which occurs and brings out the best in everybody. Charlie was the best reading dog, so patient. Paddy made my students braver. Dogs and kids, perfect! ❤️
