The John Buchan Society's aim is to promote a wider understanding and appreciation of the life and works of author and statesman John Buchan.

John Buchan, best known for his thriller The 39 Steps, was a prolific author and man of public affairs. Born in 1875, he was educated at Glasgow and Oxford Universities. After working briefly as a lawyer, he went to South Africa in 1902 where he played a significant role in reconstructing the country after the Boer War.
