Thursday Thoughts
Here's an exercise I want you to try as soon as you have a little bit of quiet and a moment to get inside your head and heart.
Ask yourself this question - What am I waiting for?
If you've been trying to stop drinking for some time ask yourself what it is you're waiting for to make it stick.
Are you waiting for the first of the month?
π For me to utter one sentence that finally gets through to your heart? For inspiration to strike?
π For divine intervention?
π For a day where you feeeeeeel like it's the right day?
π For the day where you pluck up the courage to leave your job/husband etc?
π For the day you feel 'strong enough'?
To help you realise just how capable you are of this change, think back to a time when you made a significant change in your life. think about the hurdles you overcame to make the change work. Think about the good things that came from that significant change.
You've had babies, broken up relationships, moved to a different place, started new jobs, overcome serious health issues etc etc etc etc.....
Don't tell me you can't do this. Alcohol is nothing more than a sh*tty poison that is robbing you of your best life.
You really CAN do this.
What are you really waiting for my love? # #

Choose now. The moment you acknowledge that alcohol is becoming a problem for you is the moment you should stop.
If you keep drinking, the negotiation, the failures, the self flagellation - all of it will bring you further and further down and keep you drinking more for longer.
You will go back and forth between drinking and not drinking. You will tell yourself any lie you need to so that you can drink. You will have 2 sober days and think you're making good progress and then drink because you had a bad day.
What follows is you making yourself your own punching bag.
When you finally 'get it' and stop, you will be exhausted and will have reached your limit.
Why not stop now, this second, this moment so that you can avoid all of the mental pain you will put yourself through.
I promise you, this will be the very worst part of stopping drinking.

Hi there, I'm Jules,
I work with women who are in various stages of menopause and realise that alcohol no longer has a place in their lives, helping them let go of it with ease so they can live life free of hangovers, shame and guilt.
I have been sober since 2017 and I have had a pretty interesting and adventurous life but by far the best adventure I've ever been on is my own sobriety.

Getting alcohol out of your life is a joyful choice in favour of YOU!
When I reached 3 weeks sober I had a revelation that changed me forever.
I was crying tears of joy in a Spanish street. At first I was horrified and weirded out, what on earth was going on?!
Then I realised, THIS is what happy people feel like. It struck me like a punch in the gut that initially I didn't recognise it. The last times I felt truly elated in this same way were the two days I gave birth.
From that day onwards I have loved every sober day.
Yes, I have bad days - that is the human experience - but I know that no matter how bad they get, alcohol will NEVER make them better.
If it's been in your mind to give up, do it today, now, this second and love every moment from here on in.
It will be one of the best decisions you will ever make.
If you want to find out more about Sobersistas and how I can help you find your joy there is lots of information available on my website: www.sobersistas.co.uk

How do you FEEL about giving up alcohol?
What was the first thing that jumped into your mind as you read the sentence above? Do you feel angry, sad, excited...?
The feeling that you feel the most about giving up is what will dictate your approach to giving up. If you feel any of the negative emotions about giving up, it's likely that you will struggle because you don't have a positive view of what the giving up process will be like or what sober life will be like in the long term.
You might say that it's not possible to change how you feel, but you do this all of the time. The foulest mood can easily be lifted by a baby's smile, a dog's welcome or a hug from someone who loves you unconditionally. So you can choose.
If you have negative feelings about giving up work out how you can change that.
Don't forget, sobriety is not a deprivation, it's a liberation.

Set Your Intentions
FREEBIE ALERT - Get Help With Your Triggers
One of the most challenging aspects of quitting alcohol is dealing with the things, people, situations etc that trigger you to drink.
Did you know that a powerful way to handle your triggers is to set your intentions ahead of time?
When you think about what you intend to do when you feel triggered you're more likely to leap over that obstacle so you can stay confidently on your sober path.
I've created a worksheet for you which will help you get clear about what triggers you to drink and how to set your intentions to do something other than give in when it really matters.

Happy New Year! (Pls share if you can)
When I look at this Drinking Me picture all I see is sadness and pain. When this pic was taken I was drinking every day but holding down a good job and doing well.
But, I was exhausted and wrung out. It took me another 5 years to stop drinking and obviously the transformation you can see to Happy Me didn't happen overnight.
But, from very soon after I stopped drinking I realised that sober is what happy people feel like.
I've been sober since 2017 and since then, these are the things that have transformed in my life other than how I look:
β€ I sleep REALLY well - every night
β€ I am positive and upbeat 99% of the time
β€ When I hit obstacles and bumps in life's road, I am able to overcome them
β€ I have a clarity of mind that blows me away
β€ I have come to love myself
β€ I am my authentic self every day
β€ I have improved my diet
β€ I even, occasionally, do some exercise
β€ I coach women to help them get sober and feel like this is the work I was born to do
β€ I am kind and compassionate with others in ways I never was before
β€ My closest relationships are more connected and loving than ever
β€ I am in control of my life, every day
β€β€β€β€ And yes, I feel really good about how I look.

SET YOUR INTENTIONS FOR YOUR TRIGGERS
Here is a little exercise to help you get ready for 2023.
Many of you will be starting your sober journey around now and I know you can be feeling a little jittery about whatβs ahead. Very often what derails your desire to be sober is not being clear about what to do when you have triggers or cravings.
Setting your intentions for what you will do in the situations that typically trigger you can be a powerful way of planning ahead and ensuring that you have some strategies in your pocket at critical moments.
Take a few minutes to list the people, places, situations and times when you are typically triggered. If youβve never thought about this before it can be quite revealing to discover that itβs chopping vegetables that brings alcohol to mind!
Once you have your list, for each one complete the following sentence:
When I am triggered by ________________________, I will __________________________.
Sign and date it and commit to following through. You will likely find that doing this exercise will remind you the next time these things happen.
For example, if itβs making dinner that makes you reach for the wine, then could you prepare your dinner at lunch time? If itβs someone in your life who seems incapable of drinking alone that triggers you, can you invent an urgent thing you have to do?
If you are struggling to think about a way to hurdle over your triggers ask yourself this question:
When I am feeling triggered what is the most loving thing I can do in that moment?
This should help you find a loving solution that works for you and those you love.
I've created a little workbook to help you along with it which you can get for free here: http://bit.ly/3i26kJv.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. (Wayne Dyer)
Have you ever wondered that the way you look at sobriety is keeping you drinking?
If you believe it will be hard, a struggle or impossible to succeed - it will be.
If you believe that sober life will be boring and you'll be bored - you will be.
If you believe your relationship will fail if you stop drinking with your partner - it will.
BUT, if you change the way you look at sobriety you might find the hope and inspiration you need to quit drinking for good.
If you believe it's not just possible, but easier than you think to give up - it will be. (It is by the way!)
If you believe that your sober life will open up a world of new opportunities for you - it will. (It does!)
If you believe that your sobriety will provide you with the clarity of mind so that you can have the kind of relationship you truly want - you will. (You definitely can!)
If you've had enough of the negative view from your perspective and are ready to change your view, you can get the support you need in our lovely private facebook group. Join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sobersistasgroup
