Insect Week is the annual celebration of the ‘little things that run the world’, dedicated to encouraging people of all ages to learn more about insects.
The Royal Entomological Society organises the week, supported by a large number of partner organisations with interests in the science, natural history and conservation of insects.

Today, Thursday 20th June, is the first day of northern astronomical summer for 2024 — Summer Solstice — which is the longest day of the year for this half of the planet.

Do you know what these three sports have in common?

They were introduced as competitive events at the Tokyo 2020 (held in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic) Olympic Games.

New for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is break dancing. How exciting?!?

What’s your favourite event?

Whether football is your thing or not, it can be a great source of interest for many of our young learners!

As you know, at GYM Home Learning we strongly believe that following your child’s interests and letting them lead the focus for their learning is key to success.

So, with the Euros starting today, it is the perfect time to let the football fanatics in your life be inspired by the great game!

You could:
⚽️ Locate and colour the countries taking part on a map of Europe.
⚽️ Research a country of interest in detail - Draw its flag, find out its population, discover its official languages and colour their football jersey
⚽️ Do all sorts of maths activities. The possibilities are endless! From drawing up group tables and calculating points to working out the distance of each country’s capital city from home or even organising a simple, fun sweepstake with family. There is so much learning that can be adapted for children of different ages and abilities!

10 500 athletes will compete in 329 events.

There will be 206 countries represented.

More than 15 million tourists are expected in Paris during the games.
